Little Death Lyrics

Please sleep, my darling, sleep
Your cry for inspiration
Never reaches ears on distant stars
And every night, our lonely planet
Slides across the universe
and I won't pretend I understand

Please sleep, my darling, sleep
Your death by information
Won't disturb the peace on distant stars
And even when you lock the door
Slide behind the other shades
There won't be so many strangers anymore

Fall sleep with the windows open
Come to me with the worst you've said and done
You'll close your eyes and see me
A little death makes life more meaningful
I stand no chance at all

Please, sleep my darling, sleep
Your car crashed in slow motion
And I set the pace on distant stars
And one by one the years
Have all gone slower as the moments pass
So please hold on, please hold on

Fall sleep with the windows open
Come to me with the worst you've said and done
You'll close your eyes and see me
A little death makes life more meaningful
I stand no chance at all

Please, sleep my darling, sleep
Please, sleep my darling, sleep

Fall sleep with the windows open
Come to me with the worst you've said and done
You'll close your eyes and see me
A little death makes life more meaningful
I don't stand a chance at all

Beautiful song.

I think it's about your girl having big dreams and they're sort of falling apart and you're sitting there consoling her.

this song breaks my heart

this song is absolutely beautiful...it's admitting the fallacy of humanity: our lack of invincibility. but instead of hiding from it, this song is about accepting it and recognizing that there is more to life than just thinking about how imminent one's death is. that no matter what happens, death is inevitable and probably something deeper and harder to grasp than most will realize. but even though you can't escape death, you have to continue to live and make it count, whether you want to try to understand death or not. at least that's my take.

Am I the only person that interprets this as the narrator being dead trying to comfort and console his living girlfriend? Everyone else on here seems to think she's the one that's dead.

As I see it, basically she's falling apart without him, and he's telling her to please hold on. He tells her to follow him when the worst is said and done - eventually she'll die and be reunited with him but until then just 'close your eyes and see me', he's still with her in memory.

Him saying 'come to me with the worst you've said and done' is him still offering her his support from the other side, in the way people talk to headstones or photos of their lost loved ones.

I think the car crash in slow motion isn't a literal reference, but more how she's totally falling to pieces.

I think all the stuff where he's saying her death by information won't disturb the peace on distant stars and her cry for inspiration not reaching ears there relate to all the things racing through her mind keeping her up, and her praying to the heavens for answers and explanations, but he's telling her not to trouble herself with such worries because she won't find any answers in the ether, stop keeping herself awake with anxiety, sleep.

And yeah, I'd imagine experiencing the death of someone you know would definitely give everything in life more meaning.

It is odd though that they chose to name the song Little Death when it's widely know that La Petite Mort is a euphemism for orgasm. Were it early Blink I might've interpreted 'You'll close your eyes and see me, a little death makes life more meaningful' as the girl thinking of him whilst she gets herself off! But that's not really where any of those boys are at these days...

Great song and album though. I hope the reformed Blink make stuff as good as their last and best or it'll be a shame to not get anymore +44. Although I guess that means no more Angels & Airwaves either, so every cloud...

Cheers to the person that posted the correct lyrics.

Let's not pretend that Mark wouldn't know that "Little Death" is another term for an orgasm. I think it's about sex with a girl, even though it's not a good idea. A car crash in slow motion is a metaphor for doing something that's not going to end well, but you're doing it anyway. "I stand no chance at all." You're giving into your lust against your better judgement.

"Little Death" (La petite mort) a French expression for an orgasim.

The song is about the beauty of being intimate with someone and losing yourself in that moment.

Really beautiful.

In my opinion there's the narrator, the boy, trying to calm down this girl, probably his girlfriend. She is afraid her opinion, her dependence on help or even her death won't get any attention from the society. The boy says he doesn't understand the girl's point coz it's just the way things are and she was to accept it. He wants to take away her fear of life.
