The Rapture Lyrics

I waited for the light to come
to change my life, to change my life
But I am blind, my faith is gone
I'm finding out the good book was wrong

And I must face
that I won't be saved

We're destined to all die alone
I buried my cross with a rose
I won't kneel at your alter now that I know
It's a table for a magic show

I'm getting up from off my knees
the guilt is gone and I can finally breathe
But there is not a plan for me
You're making my tired ears bleed

And you can pray
But I won't be saved

We're destined to all die alone
I buried my cross with a rose
I won't kneel at your alter now that I know
It's a table for a magic show

''The Second Coming of Christ will occur in stages. First, He will remove all Christians from the Earth, to protect them. This is called The Rapture.''

This is what Buddy is referring to, and that he basically has lost his faith and thinks its a bunch of bullshit. And that he wont be saved

the ultimate loss of faith song. He trusts in God, follows his teachings blindly, but comes to the realization that the Bible isnt really matching up with his life. He realizes he won't be saved, and that there is no bigger force in his life. so he leaves his cross and stops going to church ("i won't kneel at your altar"-a reference to communion) because he knows its just a big "magic show". He "gets off his knees" (reference to praying) and does what he wants in his life.

It's obviously about Buddy not believing in his faith anymore and questioning it.

hes lost his faith in everything, his "good book" refers to his bible, hes obviously not beleiving in any of it anymore. hes getting up off his knee's as if to rise against it? he beleives its all lies, and a show.

Buddy said in an interview that it was basically about his take on religion (namely Christianity) and his loss of faith.

Taken from the interview:

Question: What are some of the themes you tackle on the new record?

"There's a lot about Christianity. A lot about a loss of faith I had. Growing up as someone who used to go to church a lot because of my parents. It's not so much the cliche rebelling against my parents, but actually rebelling against the idea that there is some overall good, that there is some overall power and being. A lot of it takes stabs at the way Christianity doesn't really answer anything but dances around questions..."

This is obvious. This is one of the few songs that i actually understand without reading these. I have gone through this personally. "the guilt is gone and I can finally breathe" here, he is talking about how whenever the Christian faith says he's going to hell when he sins, it makes him feel guilty, and now that he isn't Christian anymore, the guilt he had is gone, and he can breathe and relax now. i sympathize and feel with Buddy in this song.
