Astronaut Down Lyrics
You look so mysterious
But you sound so serious
You should have told me on the phone
I'm sorry I'm sorry I don't know what I'm saying
I guess you tried to let me know
By leaving notes on the stereo
It's not your typical way to go
I'm sorry I'm sorry I don't know what I'm saying
'cause I found myself
Back in the bachelor scene
Feel like an astronaut
In a submarine
If I fall asleep
I could fall out of bed
Maybe the helmet helps
But it hurts my head
So let's not get hysterical what you need is a sabbatical
You get so angry when you're wrong
I'm sorry I'm sorry I don't know what I'm saying
You know it came as quite a shock to find your note in the cereal box
And why'd you have to change the locks
I'm sorry I'm sorry I don't know what I'm saying
And I found myself
Back in the bachelor scene
Feel like an astronaut
In a submarine
If I fall asleep
I could float out of bed
Maybe the ceiling helps
But it hurts my head
Cause I found myself
Back in the bachelor scene
Feel like an astronaut
In a submarine
If I fall asleep
I could fall out of bed
Maybe the helmet helps
But it hurts my head
But you sound so serious
You should have told me on the phone

To me, this song sounds like someone trying to get over a breakup. They're trying to rationalize their feelings but are so lost that they keep doubting themselves ("I'm sorry I'm sorry I don't know what I'm saying").
While trying to work through the breakup, they say a lot to their partner, like maybe they just need a sabbatical, or saying how distraught they were when they found the breakup note in the cereal box, or recalling how they left hints of the relationship's demise on the stereo.
The singer's lostness is also why I think they sing "I feel like an astronaut in a submarine." The entire astronaut scenario, in fact, is a metaphor. They feel like when they go to sleep, they'll "float out out of bed" by having bad dreams about their ex.

Being "back in the bachelor scene" probably hints to this being a breakup song, since a bachelor.is someone without a partner.
