Fake a Smile Lyrics

Living souls around me
They don't see
Just staring, closed faces
Fake a smile

Shaking hands, shake their heads
But they don't speak
Only demanding the right numbers
Of me, breaking into pieces
I'm breaking into pieces

My world is turning too fast
I can't get off this spin
I'm moving somewhere I don't want
But all I do is fake a smile

It's so cold around me
I hurry to the next stop
I'm waiting, for something
For someone, to steer me back to my life
Steer me back to my life

My world is turning too fast
I can't get off this spin
I'm moving somewhere I don't want
But all I do is fake a smile

When will I break
When does the ice break
When will I dare to press rewind and start all over

sounds like she's obviously covering up pain with a plastic grin.

reading a bit into it, and taking a Weberian angle of analysis...

sounds almost like a lament of the over-rationalization of our world -- shake their hands but they don't speak only demanding the right numbers (rationalization) of me, breaking into pieces (rationalization breaks and reifies everything into pieces)

it's so cold around me I hurry to the next stop

My world is turning too fast

She hides the burden she feels from the steel shell of rationality by "Faking a Smile". In reality she wonders when will it all break --

when will I break when does the ice break when will I dare to press rewind and start all over?

but 'breaking' is irrational. all she can do is Fake a Smile.

well that's my two cents. Thematically it fits with her N. European heritage though too.
