A Light in the Black Lyrics
A cry for help, a distant whisper
A foreign nation calling our name
Sent to hell, to reach for heaven
To serve in dark, as light in the black
Sent into battle to aid strangers in need
Gain independence, our forces will lead
Final solution when all others have failed
Liberation is coming our path has been laid
We remember the fields, where our tanks held the line
We remember our brothers in arms
When the war, has been won
And our march home begins
What awaits has not yet been revealed
What was won? what whas lost?
Will our deeds be remembered?
Are they written on stone or in sand?
Marching ashore, our target awaits
Facing resistance, forces driven by hate
Protecting civilians, while fired upon
Rules of engagement, our restrictions are gone
We remember the sea, where our ships broke the waves
We remember our brothers in arms
Leaving home, set to sea
Was this really meant to be?
See the shore of our home fade away
Facing blood, facing pain
Have our brothers died in vain?
Many lives has been lost on the way
A foreign nation calling our name
Sent to hell, to reach for heaven
To serve in dark, as light in the black
Gain independence, our forces will lead
Final solution when all others have failed
Liberation is coming our path has been laid
We remember our brothers in arms
And our march home begins

Protecting civilians, while fired upon

Facing blood, facing pain
Have our brothers died in vain?
Many lives has been lost on the way

This song is about UN Peacekeeping, but to me it's more about the war in Afghanistan, "sent into battle to aid strangers in need, gain independance our forces will lead". This song gives me a sense of pride everytime I listen to it.
The song according to Wikipedia was about the Vietnam war. Many of the lines in the song echo that view, but I don't see how they get that from the line, "we remember the fields, where our tanks held the line" Tanks weren't used to often. It could be about Korea maybe. SO my final verdict is Korea or Vietnam
@stinger85 Tanks were indeed used in the Vietnam war. Over 600 Patton and 200 Sheridan tanks were be deployed with US Forces during the Vietnam war. 800 tanks is nothing to sneeze at. "We remember the fields, where our tanks held the line" A field would be a great place to deploy a battalion tanks, don't you think? :P

Given those 2 wars, Id guess the Korean war. "Sent into battle to aid strangers in need Gain independence"
@Coolgangster Please tell me more about how an already independent South Korea was fighting for independence.

I recall reading, possibly on the bands forum, that its about UN peacekeeping forces. Hence the references to rules of engagement and whatnot
I don't think that this song is about Afghanistan since the war over there still continues and in this song "the war has been won". What does the march home mean though ?
if you listen to the song or read the lyrics carefully you will understand what it means with "will are deeds be rememberd, are they written on stone or in sand" that means - I may be wrong - will we be remembered for now or forever
I think that this song is about the march home after achieving victory in WW2 or WW1 or another major conflict.
