this song, along with a lot of songs by graduate, is about a temporary relationship. he's learned a lot from "the pretty girls back home". he no longer values an emotional relationship & just wants a sexual one. he knows it's not the best kind of situation to be in but can't really complain--"it's the life, but i wouldn't recommend it".
