You were nothing but an obstacle
In my pathway tripping me with my own trust
Without your hood of falsification
Your beauty is found to be nothing
But true revulsion and that's the only true thing about you
(The moon and stars still retain these eyes)

You're falling now as I move forward
Fueled by hope you couldn't take from me
And scarred by knowledge of painful winters
Christ still stands perfect in my mind
Christ still stands perfect in my heart

Jesus is the beautiful structure of love
Repent me to hope and love
Beware nihilists
You shall fall by the sword
Oh, God, brighten the Day of Judgment
You shall fall by the sword

Mike's vocals are very personal, so this situation could have happened. It could also be a fictional story with this real message. He is telling someone that they cannot harm him because he is a child of God, and he cannot be harmed. He trusted them, but they deceived him, and now they will sffer.

this is my favourite song i love it. it always just moves me so much i almost always start crying when it says my favourtie part: christ still stands perfect in my mind christ still stands perfect in my heart

i think it's talking about someone who is finally realizing how he has been wronged or how he had been leading a bad life, sin was taking him in the wrong direction he is explaining how through everything bad he has been through God has always been there, flawless and perfect, amazing and awesome, God showed him the way

    ^^^ same here :)

i think it is about your faith being compromised by an outer beauty of something else that is really fake. but he knows what is behind the beauty and fights it with hope. "(The moon and stars still retain these eyes.)" the moon and stars are the heavens and he will keep them in mind above everything. he also says that people who follow the false beauty will no pass at the day of judgement because they have betrayed God. those are my thoughts.

i dont think all their songs are about god because then they would all be the same and they are to good of a band to write songs all about the same thing. not dissing on god but im just saying. bands that have songs all leaning towards the same thing arent always very good.

One of my favorite songs: to me it's about how a specific person wronged him and played him for a fool, until he realized the false pretense of it all and turned it around. I can sense the anger in the opening lyrics but there's not any hatred within them; they're just an affirmation.

"You were nothing but an obstacle in my pathway tripping me with my own trust."

The person (most likely a girl) that he trusted betrayed him.

"Without your hood of falsification, your beauty is found to be nothing but true revulsion and that's the only true thing about you."

Now hes saying that since he has been lied to so much and she broke his heart she means nothing to him, and now he is repulsed by her constant lying.

"You're falling now as I move forward; fueled by hope you couldn't take from me and scarred by knowledge of painful winters."

Although he is hurt by past events, he is not going to be dragged down by her down falls because he is strong in Jesus. Also has hope that Christ has bestowed within him that cannot be taken by anyone.

"Christ still stands perfect in my mind. Christ still stands perfect in my heart. Jesus is the beautiful structure of love."

Pretty self-explanatory, he’s a strong believer in Christ.

"Beware nihilists. You shall fall by the sword. Oh god, bringeth the day of judgment. You shall fall by the sword."

Nihilist- A person that believes everything (including himself) does not exsist, they have a sense that everything is unreal

Hes saying God will bring judgement upon those who hurt the children of God and nihilists alike.

In conclusion its just a great song overall, probably my favorite. This is just my opinion of the lyrics so dont get upset with me if you think im wrong.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
