Under The Folding Branches Lyrics
There I knew you once, didn't I?
And the sound of that music traveled,
To me from that orphan sky,
And pulled it all in my vault.
Love,
hide me away
deep in this town and canopy of snow.
Go,
spin me around under the folding branches.
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so.
Thought I loved you once, didn't I?
But I wanted the fin, didn't I?
Thought it broke your heart, didn't I?
But that face in the dark wasn't mine
Love hold me away deep in this town and canopy of snow
Go, spin me around under the folding branches
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so
Go, spin me around under the folding branches
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so
Go, spin me around under the folding branches
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so
For I loved you once, didn't I?
There, I loved you once, didn't I?
And the sound of that music traveled,
To me from that orphan sky,
And pulled it all in my vault.
hide me away
deep in this town and canopy of snow.
Go,
spin me around under the folding branches.
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so.
But I wanted the fin, didn't I?
Thought it broke your heart, didn't I?
But that face in the dark wasn't mine
Go, spin me around under the folding branches
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so
Go, spin me around under the folding branches
Now, is not too late, heaven can wait another year or so
There, I loved you once, didn't I?

This song sounds gorgeous, its about finding a little bit of peace on Earth which is hard to find. You want love more than whatever heaven can offer if only for a moment. I believe he is talking to a woman
What a brilliant, beautiful song. Its nostalgia I think. He's talking about memories of a girl he thought he once loved i suppose.
I think it sounds more like 'fame' than 'fin'. Anyway that would make more sense to me. I see it as a song written about a girl he onced loved but then he decided to sacrifice his relationship with her in order to focus on his career (could have been his move to England which she might not have been able to do). Now in retrospect he has decided that he does love her. The line 'spin me around under the folding branches' seems to be a beautiful metaphor for uncovering his feelings for her from back in his memories.
It goes much deeper than that though I think.

I think "deep in this town and canopy of snow" should be "deep in this turning canopy of snow" makes more sense that way considering he is being spun around beneath a tree. presumably the "snow" is blossoms on the tree.
It sounds to me like it is about escapism. finding someone/something/somewhere where you can hide from the world. The line "heaven can wait another year or so" also sounds like he is trying to convince someone to stay alive a little longer.
