i started listening to roddy's new album on myspace. the first tracks werent working so i tried the very last one which so happened to be play me something and im glad because its such a beautiful sounding song and for me at least i usually grow attached to the first song i hear. i really am having trouble figuring out what its supposed to mean. i can see that it would be that the world is constantly changing and the old die and the children grow up to replace them . there's never a constant from technology to religion. for some reason i get a hint of religion from the mention of "air full of prayers" and "truth". "Please play me something that begins where it ends" i would say means something that IS never ending. i dont know im obviously confused . ill stop rambling now. :P
To me it's not so much about death, or religion, so much as it is about beginning a new chapter of his life. It makes me think of moving on, starting a new life with a new set of guidelines and a new set of circumstances. That just because this chapter is "ending" a new one is "beginning". Like a child growing up and leaving the nest. Whether it's from the perspective of the growing child leaving home, or the eyes of the parent waving goodbye to a person they love, making room for the person they've suddenly become. It's...
To me it's not so much about death, or religion, so much as it is about beginning a new chapter of his life. It makes me think of moving on, starting a new life with a new set of guidelines and a new set of circumstances. That just because this chapter is "ending" a new one is "beginning". Like a child growing up and leaving the nest. Whether it's from the perspective of the growing child leaving home, or the eyes of the parent waving goodbye to a person they love, making room for the person they've suddenly become. It's bittersweet to me, and triggers a strong sense of nostalgia every time I listen to it. As the child that's grown and left the nest to move on to the next big thing, it's about leaving behind one life in exchange for a new one... I think I'm just talking in circles so I'll just leave it at that.
