Bold as Love (Jimi Hendrix Experience cover) Lyrics

Anger he smiles, towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen Jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted
They quietly understand
Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready
But wonder why the fight is on

But they're all bold as love
Yeah they're all bold as love
They're all bold as love
Just ask the axis

My red is so confident that he flashes trophies of war
And ribbons of euphoria
Orange is young, full of daring
But very unsteady for the first go-round
My yellow in this case is not so mellow
In fact I'm trying to say it's frigthtened like me
And all these emotions of mine keep holding me from
Giving my life to a rainbow like you

But I'm bold as love
Yeah I'm bold, bold as love
I'm bold as love
Just ask the axis (he knows everything)

Could the reason that John Mayer covered this song was because both John Mayer and Jimi Hendrix have synesthisia?

Where did you hear John had synesthisia? I've never heard that, not to say you are wrong. I like to keep tabs on my John info. lol :^P

That makes alot of sense actually... most of the lyrics in the song describe personified versions of different colours like "My red is so confident he flashes trophies of war And ribbons of euphoria. Orange is young, full of daring but very unsteady for the first go 'round" He associates a certain feeling to a colour, which is exactly what the effects of synesthesia have on your brain. One cognitive pathway that is stimulated for colour, triggers a different pathway that would be connected to feelings such as confidence or the eagerness of the youth. so the two different sensations come...

Woooooow. Whoever doesn't know this is a cover needs to listen to Jimi's version ASAP! It'd be hard to appreciate this song without hearing it from the genius himself. But John kills this song (kill in a positive connotation =) His guitar solos are too amazing for words. But I get completely different feelings from his version than Jimi's. Just ask the axis can mean whatever you want it to mean. In Jimi's I think of the axis as some kinda higher power but in John's I'm not sure...

I wasn't epecting much from this cover, but I was pleasantly surprised. He actually does a really good job, and it still fits in with the rest of the album. I can't believe I'm just starting to realize how talented this guy is, I had always sort of written him off because of his more poppy songs.

I didn't know this was a cover. Whose is it? Yup, it's different from the other songs...I get surprised at times because it comes after "Slow Dancing...", which is sort of mellow, the suddenly John semi-shouts "Anger". Haha
