A New England Lyrics
I was 21 years as I wrote this song
I'm 22 now but I won't be for long
People ask me "When will you grow up to be a man?"
But the girls I loved at school are already pushing prams
And I loved you then as I love you still
Though I put you on a pedestal they put you on the pill
I don't feel sad about letting you go
I just feel sad about letting you know
Well I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
Well I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
Well I loved the words that you wrote to me but that was bloody yesterday
I can't survive on what you send
Every time you need a friend
Well, I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you cared
Well, I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
Well I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
Looking for another girl
Looking for another girl
Looking for another girl
I'm 22 now but I won't be for long
People ask me "When will you grow up to be a man?"
But the girls I loved at school are already pushing prams
Though I put you on a pedestal they put you on the pill
I don't feel sad about letting you go
I just feel sad about letting you know
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
Well I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
I can't survive on what you send
Every time you need a friend
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you cared
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
Well I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
Just looking for another girl
Looking for another girl
Looking for another girl

Is it not called "A New England"?
Whatever it is, it's a great cover.
Sorry it could well be but when I downloaded it it was under the name "Another Girl" so I used that title
It is 'A New England', and it's a Billy Bragg cover. I don't know where the 'Another Girl' thing comes from, it's a touch odd.
happy? sheesh
i thought this song was by Kirsty MacColl? either way i saw jamie t in manchester about a week ago and he was fucking brilliant. played this as part of the encore- well chuffed, its a mint song
Kirsty MacColl has covered it, Billy Bragg's is the original.
when he covers it he says he's covering billy bragg. i saw him play this live, it was amazing, his voice is fantastic when he does it.
I love the original but I think Jamie's version is even better, he's fantastic.
"Well, I saw two shooting stars last night I wished on them, but they were only satellites It's wrong to wish on space hardware I wish, I wish, I wish you cared"
I really love this verse, the tenderness in which he sings the last line espeically is wonderful live.
hologram_heart i agree, when he sings "it's wrong to wish on space hardware" he sounds kind of angry, but then it gets really soft and beautiful on the last line of that verse.
i absolutely love this cover, wish it was on the album.
