This Mortal Soil Lyrics
Floating in red again
A deepend soil
Nothing
Empty cup
Trade not known
Showing promise of a perfect land
No regrets for a fallen ground
The omen passed
Woman posessed
Reflecting on the duties held
Oceans morph to dust
Chasing the timeline
Bolts of light flash
Original storm god
The atmosphere that floats above the earth
Is corrupt for man
This we know
What has dwelt within the early dawn has gone away
That's okay
Dig
Climb
Ancient elm
Root
Ride the vine of father ground our carving
The atmosphere that floats above the earth is corrupt for man
This we know
Circle
Made of ash
Betray her presence
Huntress
Gentle breath
Listen to the poison rose
A deepend soil
Nothing
Empty cup
Trade not known
Showing promise of a perfect land
No regrets for a fallen ground
The omen passed
Woman posessed
Reflecting on the duties held
Oceans morph to dust
Chasing the timeline
Bolts of light flash
Original storm god
The atmosphere that floats above the earth
Is corrupt for man
This we know
What has dwelt within the early dawn has gone away
That's okay
Dig
Climb
Ancient elm
Root
Ride the vine of father ground our carving
The atmosphere that floats above the earth is corrupt for man
This we know
Circle
Made of ash
Betray her presence
Huntress
Gentle breath
Listen to the poison rose

A posessed woman is telling of what will happen when the Crystal Skull is placed at the top of the mountain. When the protaganist reaches the top all these bad things will happen. Shes telling the future not the past.
Also the main character doesn't care what will happen, saying "That's okay" He is so consumed by his mission that he doesn't care about the consequences.
One of the coolest songs on Blood Mountain...Not sure what it means, but I do know that the intro to it is so awesome...
The intro to this song rules. I kinda wish they would have reprised it at the end of the une...
excellent song
I find this piece hard to understand: The omen passed Woman posessed
what woman, and what omen? Or: what does the omen have to do with the woman?
As for the rest of the song: It seems to be a reflection/contemplation on several cosmic themes and existential truths, inspired by the epic sights and views offered by the mountain.
This song shows why Mastodon are so fantastic. In a similar way Naked Burn, this is hauntingly beautiful for a band who then have songs like The Wolf Is Loose and Blood And Thunder. Whatever anyone says about Mastodon, good or bad, you cannot deny that they are unique!
This song is prob my fave on the new album. Until I hear the next one.... what a band haha sorry getting a bit obsessed...
A really kick ass vocal effect.
As for the meaning it seems to be some sort of omen or revelation. Really weird lyrics. The lyrics remind me of In Flames that they both are very close to poetry.
Not saying your wrong Capt. Ahab, but if your pollution theory is correct, how does it tie into the storyline of the album?
