Otherland Lyrics

They rule the land,
They're in command,
They hold all strings in hand,

They are invisible,
Out of sight,
They've designed a secret place to play their games,
A world they're in control,

Divine law,
Divine law,

Be aware,
Now mind your steps,
We are uninvited guests
They may find and catch us,
Don't forget,
Do what I say,
Now connect,
Don't even ask until we're out of it,
Everything's at highest stake,

Come,
Take a look,
We are in,
Take a breath,
But don't forget,
It isn't real,
It isn't true,
An illusion,
Nothing more,

You're part of the game,
You're slave to the grind,
Oblivion,
Is your key to the Otherland,
You're part of the game,
You're cursed,
You're damned,
By now you understand

You're part of the game,
You're slave to the grind,
Oblivion,
You're welcome to the Otherland,
You're part of the game,
You're cursed,
You're damned,
By now you understand,

We get closer,
There's no better way,
Lullaby Lane,
Fate is on it's way,

The inner diistrict is the place you need to know,
It's overwhelming,
So let's rest here for a while,

Someone else appears,
Silently,
Watch me when i fall down,
Everything seems real,
Suddenly,
A perfect simulation,

Come,
Take a look,
Breathe it in,
Artificial wonderlands,
We are wandering around,
Things shall vanish,
They won't last,

Now i know you,
Understand this world is not true,
Nothing is real,
Nothing at all,
It's bits and pieces,
We walk through,

You're part of the game,
You're slave to the grind,
Oblivion,
Is your key to the Otherland,
You're part of the game,
You're cursed,
You're damned,
By now you understand,

You're part of the game,
You're slave to the grind,
Oblivion,
You've reached the promised land,
You're part of the game,
You're cursed,
You're damned,
Welcome to the Otherland,

Wait,
I can feel things are not right,
Do not breathe,
Don't look behind,
There's someone else,
The observer,

A trick of light,
A fading line,
The entrance is gone,
We can't get out of it,
We are slightly losing ground,

Quick,
It is time,
We shall go,
We better leave,
And don't come back,
No way to run,
Nowhere to hide,
I fear we are walking aimlessly,

You're part of the game,
You're slave to the grind,
Oblivion,
Is your key to the Otherland,
You're part of the game,
You're cursed,
You're damned,
By now you understand,

You're part of the game,
You're slave to the grind,
Oblivion,
Welcome to the Otherland,
You're part of the game,
You're cursed,
You're damned,
You've reached the promised land,

You've crossed the line,
You've reached the end,

You've crossed the line,
You've reached the end.

I know this song is about the novels of Tad Williams, and you could call me mad; but I really think that this song refers to a pure role-playing game's NPC who is being paranoid about the Master of the game =P

@animi it does make a lot of sense...

"They rule the land They're in command They hold all strings in hand

They are invisible Out of sight They've designed a secret place to play their games A world they're in control

Divine law Divine law " - either a game Master or a player starting a new game (in a procedural world or choosing their quests or generating a map). For an NPC or even a videogame controllable character, the player or game master is like a god...

"You're part of the game You're slave to the grind" - what...

I thought it was about the reptiliens when I first heard this song.

This one isn't difficult. It's directly about the "Otherland" series of novels by Tad Williams. It's also an awesome song.

I can't believe that... I spent ages typing out the correct lyrics and they've given the credit to the guy who posted the original lyrics :( Anyways, you're right it's based on the novels, and it's also my favourite song on A Twist In The Myth.

I know that one line "Don't even ask until we're out of it, everythings at highest stake" is what Renie says... I finally chased down a copy of City of Golden shadows, and I'm loving it... I'm guessing the Egyptian gods are the ones that "rule the land"

I'm just about to start reading that series! :D

The song is about the people trying to take down the organic artificial reality of otherland. They must shut it down, but difficulties arise as they must realize that they cannot be sucked in by the illusions of Otherland. the society is damned, for the artificial reality both takes any ideals of progress of the real world, and puts the user in a comatose state. they try to save the people from Oblivion

Huh, I always thought it was about mortals who wandered into the realm of the fey folk for some reason...
