A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger Lyrics
I spent the winter on the verge of a total breakdown
While living in Norway
I felt the darkness of the black metal bands
But being such fawn of a man
I didn't burn down any old churches
Just slept way too much, just slept
My mind rejects the frequency
It's static craziness to me
Is it a solar fever?
The TV man is too loud
Our plane is sleeping on a cloud
You turn the dial, I'll try and smile
We've eaten plastic weather
This family sticks together
We will escape from the south to the west side
My mind rejects the frequency
It's just verbosity to me
I spent the winter with my nose buried in a book
While trying to restructure my character
Because it had become vile to its creator
And through many dreadful nights
I lay praying to a saint that nobody has heard of
And waiting for some high times to come again
My mind rejects the frequency
It's static craziness to me
Is it a solar fever?
The TV man is too loud
Our plane is sleeping on a cloud
You turn the dial, I'll try and smile
We've eaten plastic weather
This family sticks together
We will escape from the south to the west side
My mind rejects the frequency
It's just verbosity to me
Dirty old shadow, stay away
Don't play your games with me
I am older now, I see the way you operate
If you don't hurt me then you die
My mind rejects the frequency
It's static craziness to me
Is it a solar fever?
The TV man is too loud
Our plane is sleeping on a cloud
You turn the dial, I'll try and smile
We've eaten plastic weather
This family sticks together

^^^^^Haha yeah I'd love to vacation in Norway and get super depressed.
I think this song is pretty much about depression in the winter time, a condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). When the sun finally does come out it's like entering a manic phase. (hence the solar fever?)
This song is absolutely beautiful, but also sad. It describes the singer's own personal depression.
"I spent the winter on the verge of a total breakdown While living in Norway I felt the darkness of the black metal bands But being such fawn of a man I didn't burn down any old churches Just slept way too much, just slept" This is perhaps the most important passage - it describes how he has spent the winter, or a period in his life, somewhere cold, dark, and alone. This is a direct metaphor for his feelings of depression and his sense of hopelessness. He is unable to even stand up for his feelings and act upon them, and consequently he does nothing but sleep through his depression.
Love this song, correction: Dirty old "shadow," not "child." Atleast that's what I hear.
I always hear just laughed way too much, anyone else get that? An amazing catchy song. Every time I hear it I get reminded of Yoshi or something. It's amazing :D
maybe "is it a solar fever?"? i dont know. kind of makes more sense to me
I love the "is it a sollllar fevver" part, it's just so - happy? No, that's not the right word. But I love it.
"my mind rejects your frequency, it started craziness to me"
shouldn't that be "my mind rejects your frequency, it's static craziness to me"???
this is my favorite song off of HFAYTD its so cute and has the best tune and i love how it sounds like raindrops at the beginning and end. I've been trying to figure out the meaning. like maybe someone keeps trying to get his attention but he's just in another place and its not coming accros "its just verbosity to me" idk if someone gets it do tell.
"but being such a faun of a man I didn't burn down any old churches"
"my mind rejects the frequency it's static craziness to me"
"the tv man is too loud our plane is sleeping on a cloud"
"we've eaten plastic weather this family sticks together"
"my mind rejects the frequency it's just verbosity to me what did he say?"
"dirty old shadow stay away"
I get a "stuck in the realm of my imagination" feel from the song.
I adore Kevin Barnes' diction.
