Exitlude Lyrics

Aggressively, we all defend the role we play
Regrettably, the time’s come to send you on your way.
We’ve seen it all: from bonfires of trust to flashfloods of pain.
It doesn’t really matter, don’t you worry it will all work out.
No it doesn’t really matter, don’t worry, that ain’t what it’s all about.

We hope you enjoyed your stay
And it’s good to have you with us
Even if it’s just for the day
We hope you’ve enjoyed your stay
Outside the sun is shining
It seems like heaven ain’t far away
Its good to have you with us
Even if it’s just for the day

i have to believe that this song is beyond just an exiltude of a concert or for the album itself... rather i would argue that this song is about death itself and how the living are trying to tell the recently departed that the time and influence that this person had on them was something that was greatly appreciated no matter how fleeting the moment was... now the living know this person has gone on because of the beautiful day that is going on outside and that they know they don't have anything to fear in death because their friend will be waiting for them their...

on a personal note... i started thinking this when on the friday after this album was released i visited my 92yr. old grandfather in the hospital and this was the only song he enjoyed as he and i listened and contemplated life ... he passed away later on that night but not before telling me "i love when we listen to your music" (at the end of this song...) but maybe i am totally wrong....

you wrote a long time ago, and i couldnt agree with you more. this song is about passing and being on the other side. it would be the song to play on ones final day. your will them on that day but remind them that you are going to a better place. This is soo deep and complex and so simple, simply perfect.

This song actually makes me feel sad that the album is over... kinda like saying goodbye to a friend you haven't heard from in a while after catching up with what's going on in their life.

I'd definitely agree with the comments about its meaning having something to do with death. I think that was the intent here.
But I can also see it as just having to say goodbye to someone, having to let them go on. My best friends are all in the class above me, and they all just graduated. This song came on as I drove home from the graduation and it seemed so fitting a farewell to them.
