Nothing and Nowhere Lyrics
Sketching your faces, I still don't know you are permanent, permanent.
You want all of the moments stolen,
Blind alleys and hallways to basements.
How you gunna hide 'til you disappear?
Because nothing and nowhere is golden.
Apartments are cages, I still don't know what is permanent, permanent.
Maybe all my posessions were precious.
Truth is all my posessions I somehow lost 'em.
Been travelling so light and we're floating by,
Seems nothing and nowhere is golden.
Some say we're lost in space,
Some say we're falling off the page.
Some say our life is insane.
But it isn't insane on paper.
Playgrounds are graveyards and all of our scars are permanent, permanent.
There's no replacement for places,
I'll always love you, you're mine.
Numb is the new high, old memories die out 'till
Nothing and nowhere is golden.
Some say we always only wanting to get off,
Some say our hands are much too soft.
Some say our life is insane;
But it isn't insane on paper.
Some say our hair is in our eyes,
Some say we're out of our little minds
Some say our life is insane,
But it isn't insane on paper to have to ask
You want all of the moments stolen,
Blind alleys and hallways to basements.
How you gunna hide 'til you disappear?
Because nothing and nowhere is golden.
Maybe all my posessions were precious.
Truth is all my posessions I somehow lost 'em.
Been travelling so light and we're floating by,
Seems nothing and nowhere is golden.
Some say we're falling off the page.
Some say our life is insane.
But it isn't insane on paper.
There's no replacement for places,
I'll always love you, you're mine.
Numb is the new high, old memories die out 'till
Nothing and nowhere is golden.
Some say our hands are much too soft.
Some say our life is insane;
But it isn't insane on paper.
Some say we're out of our little minds
Some say our life is insane,
But it isn't insane on paper to have to ask

such a painful song...
This song is such an amazing truthful song about a lot of people’s life. It’s a shaky world full of disappointments and good things that don’t last. It’s the realization that nothing in this world is permanent except bad memories and pain. She's just a natural when it comes to pen and paper.
yes and it's so true. i love this song.
This is such a beautiful song. I love the way Emily sings "Some say our hands are much too soft" Its a sad song
I love the imagery she uses with places symbolizes times of our lives. She uses a lot of imagery with apartments and houses, it's interesting. The song really examines the past, lost innocence and the impermanence of memory, and how nothing is how we want it to be. She's a true poet.
i love the line "Playgrounds are graveyards" because i think that it's about how each time we walk past them we feel the dead memories of the much simpler times of our childhood. and how those times are not permanent. im not too sure on "apartments are cages" any ideas from anyone?
btw, does anyone hear at the start at about 11 seconds in it sounds like a doornob turning, it freaked me out the first time. you have to listen to it through earphones though. it could just be the piano pedal or something, but i dunno just sayin' it scared me lol.
I live in an apartment so I can relate to the line "apartments are cages, i still don't know what is permanent." because at least for me, living in an apartment is like a cage. you can't be too loud, you can't hang up anything on the walls, the walls are bare white, it feels more like a prison then a house. I see a house as permanent, and an apartment as just temporary.
mmm that makes alot of sense Sarahh, i live in an apartment too but had never thought of that!
["How you gonna hide 'til you disappear? Because nothing and nowhere is golden."] Expectations fail, that's how I hear it. And then you "hide" (or literally), so no one, but mostly yourself can see your own fall. Sounds like avoiding disappointment. But I think this question ("How you gonna hide 'til you disappear?") has a bit of irony in it..Because you can't avoid such things, it's a part of life, if you hide - you're already gone. ["Numb is the new high, old memories die out 'till Nothing and nowhere is golden."] "old memories" seem like the only thing, that's left "golden". ["it isn't insane on paper to have to ask "] At first, I thought it has some historical meaning, like everything is repeating. History itself repeats and it's not insane, this's how it goes. OR permanent are only things you write! On paper, what you read and 'put it in your head' is permanent ("golden") ' till you forget it.. but still it's written on "permanent" paper! Yeah! I swear I couldn't explain it twice now ..but this how I hear this song now. It's "golden" to me :) It'd be interesting to read more thoughts on this line =]
