its an amazing song, and i love his voice. as for the meaning, i havent quite got it yet
The song is about the United States government I believe. Just looking over the lyrics the first time that is the message I got from reading it. It all makes a lot of sense. Could mean something else thoe who knows.
It could also refer to any mass group of people, (using nation synonymously for the populus) condemning mass media susceptibility and ignorance.
basically talking about how disgusting religion is and how the government would rather control us rather than let us be who we want to be.
