Made Me Hard Lyrics

You made me hard, you made me cold
I was simple, but now I know

Nobody wants to be the weak one
We all want to go from strength to strength

You made me hard, you made me strong
I was simple but not for long

Nobody wants to be the weak one
We all want to go from strength to strength
If I could go back in time, well I wouldn't change a thing
I wouldn't change a thing

I brought to you a kind disposition
You led me on and you rejected me
It took a while but I've accepted
I learnt a slow and painful lesson

You made me hard, you made me strong
I was simple but not for long

I wonder what you find so attractive
I've never seen you looking this excited
So let's just leave it at one third each
'Cause we both want something so far out of reach

You made me hard, you made me cold
I was simple but now I know
Now I know

I can't stand 99% of the Whitlams songs but not even I can resist the sheer moments of brilliance that they occasionally exhibit in their song writing. Anyway this song is about loss of innocence and becoming cynical about love due to bad experiences with girls... Dunno if its written about anyone in particular though...

I absolutely adore The Whitlams and this is one if my favourite songs (nice one Bernie).

The lyrics are poignant and I think everyone over 20 can relate to how adoring someone who breaks your heart can cause you to become hard and cold. A sad fact of life and love, to be sure.

As to "and let's just leave it at one third each" - perhaps it's because there's 3 people in their relationship - him (our protagonist - Bernie?), her, and the other man she's "excited" about (that Bernie now "knows" about). So sad.

I LOVE how the song ends - with Tim on the piano smashing it down. Utterly brilliant.
