The lyrics are so simple and repetitive, and while I would usually find that irritating, I find it pleasantly refreshing.
it's a paraphrased english translation of a buddhist mantra according to allmusic.
"Om Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Soha" This is the mantra, "the unsurpassed mantra", central to The Heart Sutra.
Translation: "Om, gone gone gone beyond, gone completely beyond, awakening, so be it."
As I understand it, this describes the Buddha upon achieving enlightenment.
I think the last bit of the translation of the Heart Sutra is actually "...gone completely beyond, praise to enlightenment."
It changes the meaning if you're saying "so be it."
