Undertow Lyrics

Call me claudia
I can't stand the sound of my own name
I've covered the mirrors with collages
To conceal the shame

The undertow pulls me low
Ice
It's ice cold
I felt Ophelia reaching out
For my hand oh but she missed
As the moon gently hissed
Goddamned undertow

Soft as sand
Yet as hard as a wave
This blood on my hands is here to stay
Ophelia's doing somersaults on my lawn
And she wants me to come out and play

The undertow pulls me low
Ice
It's ice cold
I felt Ophelia reaching out
For my hand oh but she missed
As the moon gently hissed
Goddamned undertow

The weight of water on the soul
I'm drowning inside and no-one knows
It could drown any sign of hope
Oh but life is such a slippery slope

The undertow pulls me low
Ice
It's ice cold
I felt Ophelia reaching out
For my hand oh but she missed
As the moon gently hissed
Goddamned undertow

Cover art for Undertow lyrics by Corinna Fugate

I have always felt like Corinna Fugate song "Undertow" was about serious depression, with the metaphors of the oceans waves, and refrences to Ophelia...

I also think this songs lyrics touch the base of insanity with the lyric "Ophelia is doing sommersolts on my lawn and she wants me to come out and play".

Its a haunting song, about serious pain and depression.

I agree about it being about depression. I really like the reference to both the water and Ophelia. Very clever, as Ophelia was said to have died by drowning therefore the "weight of water on my soul" fit well together in my opinion.

That's my thoughts on this song anyway.

Saying a Fugate song is about depression and suicide is like saying the Pope is Catholic - in other words, its a safe bet!

I think in this case, it is about the strong urge to end her life, yet in then end "Ophelia just missed her," and she is both relieved AND upset at the same time.
