The title is very confusing for me..... The music does not me think of somebody swallowing a donkey's eye. Actually, nothing makes me think of somebody swallowing a donkey's eye......
This song is Jeff Mangum's take on what you would hear once you're dead. April 8th is about the suicide, this song is the aftermath.
When I listen to this I hear "I'm ready" more than "I love you", but I can hear both somewhat.
I suppose the title is relating to the previous song "A Baby for Pree", which is about a woman giving birth to multiple children. Apparently a "Donkey's Eye" is actually an edible seed from a 'mucuna pruriens' plant, according to thefreedictionary.com.
Look it up on Wikipedia. Hell, there's quite a lot to say about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mucuna_pruriens#Uses
April 8th into this song is one of the best musical sequences on earth. People who don't like this should really broaden their horizons.
There's the theory that the instrumental melody is saying "I love you" and then there's cavelier's interpretation of "I'm ready"...but recently I've been hearing something new. "I'm aware of you." It just came to me the other day out of nowhere. Maybe it's just me, though.
it sounds like the instruments are saying "i love you" repeatedly, maybe im just crazy
13 minutes of annoying noise. A great way to end a record.
Annoying? I really like the song.
The name still confuses me too.
This is really eerie after April 8th, and I think its a really great way to end the record. I'm also not sure about the song title, interesting though.
