Doctor Blind Lyrics
The lack of light, hollow sea,
Poison beaches, limousines
Toothless dentists, cops that kill...
My Baby's got the lonesome lows,
Don't quite go away overnight;
Dr. Blind just prescribe the blue ones.
If the dizzying highs don't subside overnight,
Dr. Blind, just prescribe the red ones.
da da da, da da, da da. da da, da.
da. da da, da. la da da, da da. ah.
Hard to hold, cold to touch,
Fall to pieces, treat the rush,
In hindsight, with prime time talk.
All your pain will end here.
Let the doctor soothe your brain, dear.
My Baby's got the lonesome lows,
don't quite go away overnight;
Dr. Blind just prescribe the blue ones.
If the dizzying highs don't subside overnight,
Dr. Blind just prescribe the red ones.
da la da da. da da.
da da la la da. da la da da.
Poison beaches, limousines
Toothless dentists, cops that kill...
Don't quite go away overnight;
Dr. Blind just prescribe the blue ones.
If the dizzying highs don't subside overnight,
Dr. Blind, just prescribe the red ones.
da. da da, da. la da da, da da. ah.
Fall to pieces, treat the rush,
In hindsight, with prime time talk.
All your pain will end here.
Let the doctor soothe your brain, dear.
don't quite go away overnight;
Dr. Blind just prescribe the blue ones.
If the dizzying highs don't subside overnight,
Dr. Blind just prescribe the red ones.
da da la la da. da la da da.

i think this song is about emily's drug problem, doctor blind can't see that she is abusing them, he prescribes a red pill and if it doesnt go away another pill and more and more... if u c the video for this song when she can't find her prescription the store turns dark.
It's clear that this song is dealing with Bipolar Disorder. With the description of "dizzying highs" and "lonesome lows" it is clear enough, but people with Bipolar Disorder are prescribed two separate pills one for the lows and one for the highs.
To me, this song seems to be about someone trying to care for someone who has a mental illness and resulting hopelessness. In the beginning of the song, she seems to suggest ways in which she feels like a failed lover or friend (toothless dentists, cops that kill). The song then progresses to a feeling of apathy like "just take the pills" but then the mood picks up again and you realize that she may be talking to herself as well (Dr. Blind). I think this song is about realizing one's own dissatisfaction with a relationship and how it is ultimately sabotaging them both. It is trying to help someone you can no longer stand, but you feel like you would feel better if they got recovered with your help. Basically, codependency.
At least this is how I viewed the song.
This song is soo beautiful. I love Emily Haines, her voice is absolutely amazing.
i love this song. this song is about depression.the description of perscribing blue pills becuase she is so depressed and having to take the red pills because she is then so high.its also about her addiction to them and how it has taken away a certain portion of her life but she needs it. just a thought.
I love this song. this song for some odd reason reminds me of the silent hill franchise. the song i think is about depression and that Dr. blind means that her doctor has not clue and no medication can stop this form of depression at all
I always thought she said "all your pain will end here" instead of "all your fame will end here"? hmmm
these lyrics are kind of wrong, in quite a few places.
all your fame will end here =all your pain will end here hingsight = hindsight one= ones the prime times gone = with prime time talk
i have the c.d, and it has all the lyrics in the booklet. i also don't want to be one of those bitchy people who gets their thrills out of correcting people, because i don't. i just love this song, and emily haines. and i know that tinylittlewords does too, he was all over metric, and emily haines before i even got here. so as a fan like yourself, if you could just change that a little bit, we'd all be happy i think. long live "knives don't have your back".
i think this is partly about our prozac nation...just prescribe something to numb the pain until we feel nothing at all and were all happily medicated robots
i think it also has other meaning and is very metaphorical but tough to decipher
i feel bad about all the typings. but thank you for being so nice about it, ode to joy. i got so excited when i found the leaked songs i didn't bother spell checking or fixing it once the album came out. nurr..
