The Letter Lyrics
It's got my name on it,
and it's just waiting there for me,
i feel the cold run through my veins.
and it's got her shame on it,
she couldnt say it to my face,
but i wont waste time placing blame.
[chorus]
but i know that i'll move on,
and tell myself i'll find me something better,
i let go and just forget her.
she was no good for me,
deep down i know that's the way it has to be so,
how comes i still can't open this letter?
i can't forget her.
really wish i could
well, there must be a name for it,
whatever this is you've done to me,
i'm all twisted up inside.
well who's gonna pay for it,
if it's not you i guess it's me,
you left with you're life and took mine.
[chorus]x2
it's got my name on it,
and it's just waiting there for me.
and it's just waiting there for me,
i feel the cold run through my veins.
she couldnt say it to my face,
but i wont waste time placing blame.
but i know that i'll move on,
and tell myself i'll find me something better,
i let go and just forget her.
she was no good for me,
deep down i know that's the way it has to be so,
how comes i still can't open this letter?
i can't forget her.
whatever this is you've done to me,
i'm all twisted up inside.
if it's not you i guess it's me,
you left with you're life and took mine.
and it's just waiting there for me.

I think this is the best song on the album! The letter he is talking about is one that his (now ex I would guess) girlfriend has left for him because she can't tell him to his face that she doesn't want to be with him. And even though he knows what it says he still can't open the letter, because if he does it will draw a line under the relationship and confirm that it is over. If he doesn't open it there is still a chance in his mind that he hasn't lost her.
No comments on a song this good?! This song is wicked. James Morrison is sucha good writer. Anyway I think readin the lyrics will pretty much sum up what the song is about...
Its unbelievable how little comments have been left for such a great title! The more i hear this song, the more it grows on me. The thing i love about James Morrison's songs are the way they carry so much meaning; i find it so easy to relate to them.
I agree with the above comments, it's a song about being in denial. Not necessarily about a gf though.
