Alloway Grove Lyrics

Coming home again
to see a girl that's prettier than a diamond in the sun
oh what fun!
I wonder if she's been naked in her room since I've been gone
I wonder if she said to them as she said to me before

However much you use me baby, come on use me more
However much you use me baby, come on use me more

Getting off the train
to see a girl that's sweeter than an apple picked from Adam's tree
oh glory be!
and I wonder if she's been pressed against an unfamiliar wall
and said to all those men as she has said to me before

However much you want me, I swear I'll make you want me more
However much you want me, I swear I'll make you want me more
and more and more and more

la-la-la, la la la la

Arriving at the door
just to be told that the girl I'm missing has been in London for a while
no more northern skies for her
they say she's left a letter up the stairs for everyone
it's pinned against her bedroom door for all the world to see and she says

However much I love you, you will always love me more
However much I love you, you will always love me more
and i guess i's true
however much she loves me i will always love her more

la-la-la, la la la la

I'll love you more and more, I'll love you more
I'll love you more and more, I'll love you more
I'll love you more and more, I'll love you more
I'll love you more and more, and more and more...

I get the impression that she's a "working girl" who sees a lot of men. She's beautiful and good at what she does, and the men always want her more than she does them.... her note on the door is not just for the one guy, but for all her clients.

Paolo mentions a story in a mid 2000s doc which seems related, he mentions seeing a girl for a year the her moving to london for two, during these two years he wrote most of these streets and showed her the songs about her when she came back, they then got back together and dated until the end of his first British tour.

Woo Hoo 1st Comment !!

Love this catchy number in which the meaning is pretty obvious to. He really was into this girl and had to leave and now he' returning and wondering if she has moved onto other guys and in the end found out she has moved away.

I love the song that follows it on the album, its so beautiful, and also the live version of last request that is hidden late on. Paolo has an even more strong scottish accent in that version!

this song is pure magic. i think its about bieng on the road all the time, and not bieng able to see your girl. and distance not only makes the heart grow fonder, it makes it jelous. so he's thinking, "i wonder if shes been naked in her room since i've been gone, i wonder if she's said to them as she said to me before". he thinks, oh... shes so beautiful, she will have cheated on me, have met someone else. and then "however much i love you you will always love me more". he'll never be worthy of her. this song is amazing!

just re-read it, sorry if it doesnt make sense! x

like most of paolo's songs, this one's another autobiographical and talks about the same girl he's really fallen hard for, teri brogan. they've had a turbulent relationship since he started touring, but he always comes back to her. he even said in one interviews that groupies kinda annoy him because "i already have a girlfriend and no one can compare to her". last request, rewind and loving you are all about teri. lucky, lucky girl.

Personally I think the temporary nature of relationships is conveyed by this song. He loves someone, but perhaps he is showing how we all love the idea of someone from a distance. In our mind, their presence grows and we feel like we love them indescribably. But, like so so many relationships, they are temporary, we move on, they are disposable and forgotten as quickly as the tide draws out again, and the wave of love that soaked us will all too fast retreat. However, despite the way we often know that the relationship won't last, we still have an ecstasy of love and joy, yet it is tainted with heartbreak and a fear that this love will pass all too fast. He seems to be able to accept this fact of life and love, shown by the upbeat, youthful and almost careless, 'not-looking-back', tone, which, to me, could be a way of him saying that this happens to everyone, and, like everyone, we have to move on, with only the memory of that exciting, youthful, romantic love we had for someone who we may never see again, or who may no longer feel the same as we do. Because life goes on and nothing lasts long enough...
