I Believe In You Lyrics
Aren't you the little one
That hid in my arms afraid of the thunder?
Are these the little hands
That held so tight to mine?
Didn't we both agree you'd never grow up
And now here we are
And here you go
Of all the things I want to say
The thing you really need to know is...
I believe in you
Yeah, I believe in you
Everything you are
Everything you are becoming
And I believe in you
Yeah, I believe in you
So spread your wings and fly
On the winds of knowing I
Always believe in you
So many prayers we've prayed
So many dreams to get to this moment
Now this is where we stay
While you go change the world
But I'll be where I have always been
Up in the stands cheering you on and
Singing this song
A song the very God who made you
Has been singing all along
I believe in you
Yeah, I believe in you
So spread your wings and fly
On the winds of knowing I
Will always believe in you
And when you rise and when you fall
I'll still believe in you
Just close your eyes and hear me calling
I believe in you
Oh, I believe in you
That hid in my arms afraid of the thunder?
Are these the little hands
That held so tight to mine?
Didn't we both agree you'd never grow up
And now here we are
And here you go
Of all the things I want to say
The thing you really need to know is...
Yeah, I believe in you
Everything you are
Everything you are becoming
Yeah, I believe in you
So spread your wings and fly
On the winds of knowing I
Always believe in you

Yeah, I believe in you
So spread your wings and fly
On the winds of knowing I

I believe in you
Oh, I believe in you

I always thought the song was from a father's perspective to his child. My dad actually sang this song to my sister and I for our wedding days.
Maybe I'm confused. Haha.
But from my perspective, "didn't we both agree you'd never grow up" and "aren't these the little hands that held so tight to mine" explain an adult/child relationship--not a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.

I just love this song! I had it played for my son at his high school graduation Senior Service at church. For weeks before, everytime I'd hear it, I'd cry almost uncontrollably. You see, my son and I were alone for the first five years of his life after his father left me pregnant. I named him Alex which means "helper" because I knew he would be the one I would depend on indefinitely, or at least I thought so. (God sent us a special man when Alex was 5 1/2 years old). I believe in him so much and I know that he CAN become whatever God has chosen for him to become. I've been in the stands cheering for him since he started playing ball at age 4 and I'll always be there, even when he falls. This song is perfect for a mom and her child when he/she grows up. My son even now has this ring tone on his phone for when I call him.
