This is such a beautiful song... taking the frightening things and making them your friends. If I had a baby child, I would sing this to her nightly.
I believe it was written by Barry Andrews for his son. I don't feel like I have much to say about the meaning other than that it is a beautiful lullaby that makes me tear up a bit every time I hear it. Hoping for his child to retain his goodness and spark despite everything that threatens to attenuate it. And it is unusually direct and earnest among Shriekback songs whose meanings are often more obscure or indirect.
