to me this song is saying that like never turns out the way you want. shit always happens but dont let it get you down as in the end your the master of your own destiny.

To me this song refers to how as a society we pursue things that are supposed to make us happy - "You got a perfect girl, And it's a perfect world" - but they only serve to drag us down ultimately. We go for things that are bad for us, we surround ourselves with it, because they make us feel good, "You build a fortress around you, Can't see no reason not to continue." But it can't last forever and it'll come back on us. "The things that you always dreamed about You know that in time they'll be running out It's all turning around, and around, and around."
So, everything we WANT is all that we strive for and think we must have, but all we really need is all we already have.
