Everyone Gets a Star

"These guys have all got problems These guys have all got their problems..."

I always love this part....it's so reassuring. I don't think he cares to hear anymore about the guys in her past. But he's enamored with her, or potentially,... and basically, he's saying "I don't see anything wrong with you, and if you could quit poring over the past, we might have a shot."

And even though he doesn't think he's doing anything wrong, I think she's probably "getting angry" at him, getting mad over silly things, because she's looking for a reason to push him away...,because if she burns him first, she can't be hurt again like she was with all the other dudes. basically, she'd rather sabotage whatever it is they're starting, before it can truly start...but they're drawn to each other, nonetheless.

He'll keep reassuring her he's different, that he has other plans for them...it's tiring to have to start from scratch everytime she pulls away, but he's not giving up on her yet.

I think "everyone gets a star" ....he's saying, "even though you keep shooting me down, i see that you're improving, so you get a star." (for the little progress she's making) ...even if it's just a little at a time, he sees it.... and he says "everyone" so he isn't just pointing the finger at her, but he's talking about her, he's just telling her she's improving...but he's doing so cautiously, so he doesn't scare her away.

"Today, you've come now go away. I know, it gets so confusing. Sometimes, it all seems to drag me down. And when I'm getting closer, so close, everything just falls apart." I love that part. Probably because it hits home?

They had some sort of relationship that, try as they might, they couldn't get to work. And after opening up to him and having that blow up in her face, she's afraid to start anything with anyone else. I think this guy secretly wants to believe it'll still work between them, but might be just saying the consoling thing: there's someone out there for everyone.

I don't see the "star" thing like the elementary school reward stars. I think it's just the idea that the sheer near infinite number of stars in the universe is analogous to what a staggering number of people there are in the world. But there's one out there for you.

wowww, this is personally my favorite off the album. love love love it.

anyways, seems to me the singer is frustrated with someone/something. i get the impression that it is from coming back to him, and he wants to be left alone, i could be wrong.

but his frustration, "everyone gets a star", which reminds me of elementary school, when teachers give you gold stars and all that for ... whatever good it is you do

also, the second line up here is "I want you to, forever no", but i always thought it was "I want you to forever know", that just made more sense to me.

i think its about a girl that has had relationship problems in the past and and he cant get close to her because she is scared of being hurt. but he is explaining that eventually she will find someone for her.

love this song. i always thought of it too sort of like elementary school, "everyone gets a star" for being good or doing whatever they're supposed to.. though it sounds a little sarcastic here. i think it probably is about a romantic interest too, although he sings more about himself & his own issues than her. & yeah, shouldn't it be "forever know", not "forever no"? doesn't make much sense...
