Beautiful song and maybe the meaning is obvious, but here are my thoughts...

It's clearly about a woman who just understands the singer and sets him on the right path.

You pushed my buttons Started me knowin' things I already knew

The woman reminded the singer of truths that he knew, but had forgotten. Perhaps something simple like remembering to enjoy the moment that you're in instead of getting lost in the future or the past.

How did you understand With the palm of your hand

I think the point is that the woman immediately understood the singer ... before it was even reasonable for her to have understood him. As if she's been on a similar path; the understanding is made instantly - perhaps when they first meet and shake hands?

It could also refer to the magic of a woman's touch, but talking about the understanding kinda goes against that.

You held my burden Rested my bones in your arms sweet and true

You listened to me and my problems and accepted them... and metaphorically held me in a safe place.

How did you stay so strong And kiss me so long

Despite the singer's ups-and-downs, the woman has been steadfast. He's amazed at her ability to love him consistently.

You pulled my trigger The song that rang out was so pretty and new How did you get so wise With one look in my eyes
