It's a Test Pt. 1 Lyrics

If there ever was a test
then I'd be better than the rest
'cause I know better than the most
that love will haunt you like a ghost
it's the everlasting feeling
of not being who you want to
of not saying what you mean to
though you really, really want to

And as the ashes of the trees
that you have burned down
on your way
comes together in a pile
they form a mountain in my way
and I know that I must force it
to get out of here alive
I try to think of something alse
I try to keep the spirit high

But it's not love that makes you wiser
makes you better ot refine you
it's not love that keeps you fit
pulls you up and realigns you
it's the battle with yourself
and it's the things
that you must go through
to get it right and get it over with
and get back in the world

But it's not that I still want you
you're not standing in my way
and it's not that I feel lost
and feel there's something left to say
it just really left me
that one question in my head:
do you ever wish that you
could just forget that we have met?

This (together with part 2) is the best track on the whole CD. I really love it, mostly because Troels bescribes that feeling so fucking well, I mean, the lyrics sums up my feelings pretty much. Even after all these years...

One of my absolute favorite songs, but then anything from Veto is amazing. I can't even begin to explain how close to the heart this song is for me.

As I spoke about the lyrics with the singer once, he said it´s about two people (equal if men or women) and the perspectives. It also could be seen as the evolution from a person, like in the first version she/he is in the position of the one who was hurt and after going through these hard times, she/he is now in the stronger position (in part b). Personally I have lived through boths positions in the songs- first it was b and now I´m in a. I just can´t get it, how goddam specific and poet he chooses the words to describe the feeling! "And as the ashes of the trees that you have burned down on your way" this is one of the most intense pictures which is drawn by words in a song. "But it's not love that makes you wiser makes you better ot refine you"- thats so wise- it´s true- you have to get over it by your self, and have to love your self, without beeing addicted by someones love. The last question/sentece is the best, that really does say " I don´t want to blame you for something, it´s simply this last question which is essential and it also says- Probably we´re both the ones to blame: "do you ever wish that you could just forget that we have met?"
