The song is about Canadian Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire and his experiences leading the failed UNAMIR mission in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide.

The song speaks of the Hutu hate radio ("The radio waves are creeping along the corrirdor"), him as a peacekeeper ("The blue I wear is not so beautiful anymore"),the guilt he feels over not being able to stop the genocide ("There's always something in my mind that I should have done"), and the demons he fought with/believed he saw (he's on record saying that he believed that some of the perpetrators were possessed);"Leave the demons behind".
