Dreaming Man Lyrics

I'm a dreamin' man,
yes, that's my problem
I can't tell
when I'm not being real.
In the meadow dusk
I park my Aerostar
With a loaded gun
and sweet dreams of you.

I'll always be a dreamin' man
I don't have to understand
I know it's alright.

I see your curves and
I feel your vibrations
You dressed in black and white,
you lost in the mall
I watch you disappear
past Club Med Vacations
Another sleepless night,
a sun that won't fall.

I'll always be a dreamin' man
I don't have to understand
I know it's alright.

Now the night is gone,
a new day is dawning
And our homeless dreams
go back to the street
Another time or place,
another civilization
Would really make
this life feel so complete.

I'll always be a dreamin' man
I don't have to understand
I know it's alright.

Dreamin' man
He's got a problem
Dreamin' man
Dreamin' man
He's got a problem
Dreamin' man.

I seriously can't believe I'm thev first to comment on this song! This is my all-time favorite song, not just of Neil's but ever! I love the vocal delivery, the background vocals, the lyrics, everything. I love the line about "dressed in black and white and lost in the mall" and "in the meadow dust, I park my Aerostar" It's just a classic Neil Young song. I love it. Definitely the best song on Harvest Moon, probably the best song of his ever, and in my opinion, one of the most satisfying songs by anybody.

This is just an all around great song. It's vintage Neil, and that chorus is just pure genius.

Classic Neil Young. Love the backing vocals and harmonies. I think this is about a man who can't adapt to the suburb way of life. His wife/gf/significant other is the other way, she gets "lost in the mall". He doesn't feel that he's "home" but instead dreams of another time and place. The theme reminds me of the Rush song Subdivisions -- "Nowhere is the dreamer/Or the misfit so alone".

I'm thinking he's contemplating suicide as he talks about his loaded gun...
