Ok - first to comment. To me, this song is about that boy. That boy that you don't want to 'fix', but you want to show him he's worthy of being loved.

I think potterhead's right... i think she's singing about a boy who's just ended a relationship and is feeling pessimistic about love - "your head is hanging, trying to beat those goodbye blues" "I bet you'll be fine" is her reassuring him that he'll get over the sadness he's feeling from his breakup.

"You're looking so lonely and i can't stop looking at you" - this is the classic situation whereby a girl is attracted to a lonely/heartbroken guy and just wants to 'fix' him and make him feel better... maybe it's got something to do with the whole 'nurturing maternal instinct' or whatever... but i definitely think that's what this song is about.

I'm not sure what 'i guess it's not the way you always planned it' means, maybe it's her saying that she knows things don't always work out. 'looks like you're heading for a crash landing' - she knows this guy's broken hearted and maybe feeling a little self destructive... but 'i bet you'll be fine' is her hint that she'll take care of him/wants to be with him??? I'm not sure - that's just what it means to me.

this is maybe the most beautiful song. its exactly what i want to say to my friend who has gotten himself into a bad relationship with the same girl for the billionth time. 'looks like your heading for a crash landing, thats just the way it looks from where im standing" are basically my words...

i think it might be about a boy who lost someone, not just agirlfriend, but maybe a death of a friend, or even a parent. hmm, i dunno, lovely song though

I think it's about a boy she sees who is in a really dark place in life and she sees him and is immediately attracted to him and wants to become close with him.

I think this song is about herself. She is looking at herself. She has been hurt and knows that she is crashing down. She knows that she will be fine because she has to make it that way.

i heard this song...watchin the movie reed fish and had to go back a gazzilion times....just wanted to hear it over and over...it's beautiful!**made that rising feeling in my chest...just simply amazing...>>sigh

I totally keep rewinding my DVD when I first watched Reed Fish, just to keep hearing this song.
