All My Days Lyrics
Well I have been searching
All of my days
Many a road, you know
I’ve been walking on
All of my days
And I’ve been trying to find
What’s been in my mind
As the days keep turning into night
Well I have been quietly standing in the shade
All of my days
Watch the sky breaking on the promise that we made
All of this rain
And I’ve been trying to find
What’s been in my mind
As the days keep turning into night
Well many a night I found myself with no friends standing near
All of my days
I cried aloud
I shook my hands
What am I doing here
All of these days
For I look around me
And my eyes confound me
And it’s just too bright
As the days keep turning into night
Now I see clearly
It’s you I’m looking for
All of my days
So I’ll smile
I know I’ll feel this loneliness no more
All of my days
For I look around me
And it seems you found me
And it’s coming into sight
As the days keep turning into night
As the days keep turning into night
And even breathing feels all right
Yes, even breathing feels all right
Now even breathing feels all right
Yes even breathing
Feels all right
All of my days
Many a road, you know
I’ve been walking on
All of my days
And I’ve been trying to find
What’s been in my mind
As the days keep turning into night
All of my days
Watch the sky breaking on the promise that we made
All of this rain
And I’ve been trying to find
What’s been in my mind
As the days keep turning into night
All of my days
I cried aloud
I shook my hands
What am I doing here
All of these days
For I look around me
And my eyes confound me
And it’s just too bright
As the days keep turning into night
It’s you I’m looking for
All of my days
So I’ll smile
I know I’ll feel this loneliness no more
All of my days
For I look around me
And it seems you found me
And it’s coming into sight
As the days keep turning into night
As the days keep turning into night
And even breathing feels all right
Yes, even breathing feels all right
Now even breathing feels all right
Yes even breathing
Feels all right

This song is something quite hopeful for me.
I think it is about someone who is depressed, lonely, what have you. They are lost. Maybe in a relationship or maybe just in life. They keep on trying to go find things that will fill this huge void in their life, but keep coming back confused as just as empty as before. I think the middle is that point in your life when you hit rock bottom. You try to figure out where you went wrong. You just want to smile and laugh again; and for once in a long long while, don't want to have to fake it. The end is clarity. That moment where you find exactly what you are looking for. It could be from a relationship, God, or, the majority of the time it happens this way for me, it's in a song.
absolutely brilliant ideas that you're laying down here. I would say it's god, but another song of his hints towards leaving faith in God behind when he grew older. The song is called Crinan Wood, it's just as haunting as this song here.

@benjaminad I wrote this comment in some of the darkest parts of my life. I'm on the other side of bad and life is so wonderful on the other side. I smile and I mean it. There is purpose. I don't know what you're going through personally, but this song brought me through a lot and I hope it pulls you through whatever life is throwing at you. Best of luck and all the good vibes your way.

This song was in the movie "Away We Go" with John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. It was an awesome movie, and the soundtrack (which was 80% Alexi Murdoch) was amazing! :)
That movie was so cute! The second it ended I went online and downloaded the soundtrack!

Yes, I think at the time of writing this song, the solution Alexi finds to the emptiness of the days and nights we all go through is God. Only God (if he/she exists) is guaranteed to continue with you ALL of your days.
I don't believe in God, but I see the beauty of the concept. Still, I think this song has enough ambiguity that you can apply it to whichever person is the most important to you in your life, which is nice. :)
this song simply amazed me
I just heard it for the first time yesterday driving back home from a trip, and it just moved me.
This song defines my life! Except I didn't find what I'm looking for...
I heard it in the trailer of a movie called "Away We Go". By the way, if you're into soft, indie movies, and you love Alexi Murdoch (he did the whole soundtrack!), listen to this movie. VERY touching and cute!
Sorry you didn't find what you're looking for, hope you do. It's unclear what exactly he finds in this song. And the "promise that WE made" gets me because who's the "we"? Someone said the song's about death, I don't get that impression, seems more like finding a mate for life, though the wording does suggest it could be a higher power. It certainly seems to be about the questioning in life, the big questions, and frustration at our imperfections and the disappointments (no friends around for example). And whatever he finds at the end...

And whatever he finds at the end satisfies him. I believe that God (Jesus) is what we're all searching for, even if we don't know it, and that in the end He does satisfy (and certainly is there "all of our days"). This song is beautiful, but it is just unclear whether that's what the singer is finding, or something else. A lot of Alexi's songs have this abstract nature to them, I guess that's his style.
I don't know why no one has commented this yet!
its such a good song...I think better than Orange Sky even
the last lines are awesome
This is a great song, just as increadible as Orange Sky. If I had to pick a favorite between the two I don't think I could.
I like this one better than Orange Sky.
i believe i heard this on the OC, which i must admit...has an amzing choice of music.
i would love to learn to play this....
This song absolutely blew me away when I picked up the album that he did. I had heard of him randomly and just picked it up on a fluke - for some reason, I just thought it LOOKED like a good album.
I never, ever questioned that knack for good taste. This album is amazing and this is one of my favorite songs of all time. The skill and talent behind this is incredible. There's something about this that has a Christian tint to me, but I might just be projecting. I think it may be him addressing God but it could also be him addressing a lover. It's very ambiguous to me.
I'd guess that its about God rather than a lover. I may be wrong, but look:

I think the "you" on the last line is actually "He".
