Another Night Lyrics
Another night with your head in the oven
Simmering like a heat wave over you
Sweat drops hiss at the bottom
Blood drop, let's cook like glue
They left you with nothing
And left me for dead
When out and lost your senses
Went out and lost my head
In deceit, disbelief, they're laughing
As we faint in these houses burning down
In the smoke and the heat we're gasping
For a breath of some fresh air in this town
So say for me, the pleasantries
How pathetic this must sound
To patiently still be craving
A taste of the good life in this town
They left you with nothing
And left me for dead
When out and lost your senses
Went out and lost my head
In deceit, disbelief, they're laughing
As we faint in these houses burning down
In the smoke and the heat we're gasping
For a breath of some fresh air in this town
Well make believe
That we still dream
Of one day finally getting out
They left you with nothing
And left me for dead
When out and spent your senses
Went out and sold my head
They left you with nothing [x2]
They left you with nothing
And left me for dead
And they left us gasping
For one last breath
So say for me, the pleasantries
How pathetic this must sound
To patiently still be craving
A taste of the good life in this town
Simmering like a heat wave over you
Sweat drops hiss at the bottom
Blood drop, let's cook like glue
And left me for dead
When out and lost your senses
Went out and lost my head
As we faint in these houses burning down
In the smoke and the heat we're gasping
For a breath of some fresh air in this town
How pathetic this must sound
To patiently still be craving
A taste of the good life in this town
And left me for dead
When out and lost your senses
Went out and lost my head
As we faint in these houses burning down
In the smoke and the heat we're gasping
For a breath of some fresh air in this town
That we still dream
Of one day finally getting out
And left me for dead
When out and spent your senses
Went out and sold my head

And left me for dead
And they left us gasping
For one last breath
How pathetic this must sound
To patiently still be craving
A taste of the good life in this town

First post? Where's all the Alkaline Trio fans checkin out Matt's other band here?
Sounds great, and really reminds me of AT lyrically. Dark and dreary. Awesome.
I definitely agree with the fact that Heavens sounds a lot like AT lyrically. It reads (but does not sound) like stuff on Maybe I'll Catch Fire.
I first heard this song last night and can't stop listening to it. Matt is a lyrical genious. I can't wait for the record to drop!
I know this song doesnt mean this.. But the way i have taken it is this. A boy who has lost his friends and while everyone is having fun in the town hes at home.

Killer tune. I can't decide which one I like more; this or Patent Pending. Both of them flow so goddamn well it's brilliant. As far as the lyrics, they definitely remind me a lot of trio, as some of you have said. I'm sure you'll have people saying that Matt's ran out of things to write about, but regardless of the similarity, each of his songs are so unique and rad in their own way. Still, I think Steinbrick really deserves most of the credit for making Heavens what it is and setting it apart from Alkaline Trio, even though Matt's the main man.
I believe the following lines need correction:
"Blood droplets cook like glue" "We'll make believe" "So save for me the pleasantries" "Went out and lost your senses" "Went out and spent your senses"
This album may be Matt's best lyrical work since "Maybe I'll Catch Fire", but there's still a blatant saturation of death-oriented adjectives and metaphors to feel that these songs are heartfelt. Early Alkaline Trio songs are so personal and easy to relate to, but as the occult and death theme increased, the songs seemed to be more about shock value than honest emotion. This is the first output in a while that doesn't remind me of a B-Horror film. Matt's still got his touch; he just needs to stop sending his lyrics to Satan for revisions.
oooh his voice sonds soo good on this! first song i heard of theirs and love it! xXx
When i first heard this song the opening lyrics made me think of Sylvia Plath as we had just learnt about her in school and after recently reading the bell jar it really does remind me of her... ace sound, sounds terrible i know but can't help it.
hahaha it made me thing of sylvia plath to hahaha but i dont think it is about her, but it is a great song. I love the sound to all there songs, they are so chilled and just make me smile =]
