Its Obvious what this song means. Hes talking about a girl hes hurt before who cant Find love. She givs up on him,starts seeing someone else, but he knows shes just going to get hurt again, so he tried to be her friend and help her see it thru it. Hes talking about how hes doing all of this to give her som peace of mind,for her to decline from being hurt again.
