They're Not Like Us Lyrics
When I'd cross my arms and hope to cry if caught smoking,
you weren't sleeping
We never said a thing.
And I tried to leap from your front seat on the freeway,
but you held me,
you said now what a waste.
Your mark was cut in me
no they're not like us
We bled in empathy
no they're not like us
and oh when the world dont care for you
I do
They were quick to say you're overweight and lonesome,
and you believed them, you said what girl could love.
And they broke your arm in the schoolyard on the concrete,
I was watching, we never said a thing.
They never felt the sting
no they're not like us
We fell for everything
no they're not like us
and oh when the world the world dont care for you...
you weren't sleeping
We never said a thing.
And I tried to leap from your front seat on the freeway,
but you held me,
you said now what a waste.
no they're not like us
We bled in empathy
no they're not like us
and oh when the world dont care for you
I do
and you believed them, you said what girl could love.
And they broke your arm in the schoolyard on the concrete,
I was watching, we never said a thing.
no they're not like us
We fell for everything
no they're not like us
and oh when the world the world dont care for you...

This song makes me so sad. It's surface meaning is obvious but I can't tell if that's the whole of it.
I think it's about either two best friends or siblings that are always there for each other despite bullies and rough times and what not. They comfort and care for each other always.
yes it is about siblings, at a format concert i went to he said that it was about his brother
Ahhh, sweet. It's a really sad/comforting song that he made.
yeah same here i heard him talk about how it was about his brother. he must be really close with him cause he's mentioned in screamin too.
Street to Nowhere has AMAZING songs, and this one is definitely one of the best.
In this song Dave refers to "them" and "the world". Many people these days seem to be unaware of the pain crawling inside people; they add to their agony by not understanding their thoughts and emotions, or at least not wanting to understand them. Everyone needs to bring themselves down to a lower level and at least ATTEMPT to empathize others. Simply by letting them know that you care for them will assuage their pain, even by a little bit.
