I see our fate; I see our past
And all the things that could not last
Its heavy on these eyes, frozen as I hold this photograph.
Its all were left thats of any worth
And its so much more than a thousand words
Now in this frame is our only way we can endure.
I pictured you and me always
And in this photograph were safe
All I hear in my head
Are all the words I wish Id said
Sentimental thoughts are overwhelming me again.
As I stare through a lens of tears
At what remains of those fallen years
Now in this frame memories are held to persevere.
I pictured you and me always
And in this photograph well stay
I pictured you and me always
And in this photograph were safe.
Coping with this loss has broken me.
Im just hoping things are all as they should be.
I pictured you and me, you and me
I pictured
And all the things that could not last
Its heavy on these eyes, frozen as I hold this photograph.
Its all were left thats of any worth
And its so much more than a thousand words
Now in this frame is our only way we can endure.
And in this photograph were safe

And in this photograph well stay

I pictured you and me, you and me

The lines; "I pictured you and me always And in this photograph were safe",bring tears to my eyes. The idea is that the relationship thats gone now-in the picture will never be changed by time,or feelings or anyone else that comes into their lives even tho' they aren't together.
To me this song means that they have lost a great deal of things, probably because of Katrina, "And all the things that could not last" the keyword here is "things" to me it means material things. So they are no longer there. The aftermath left hardly anything, and when he looks at the picture he feels safe, with the person he loves. They also have a song called "with out" so I think this two are connected, and very amazingly beautiful! I'd have to say MuteMath is my top of tops when it comes down to meaningful music!!
this is such an amazing song!! i can't believe no one has commented it yet and it's been up for months..
anyways, i think this song is about someone who can't let go.. but has accepted it. "I see our fate; I see our past And all the things that could not last"
all that is left of their love that once was is a photograph- because in that picture lies what was.. and in the picture is where they'll always be.. where they'll always be inlove and together. "Its heavy on these eyes, frozen as I hold this photograph. Its all were left thats of any worth And its so much more than a thousand words"

awe, such a beautiful song. :)
this is my favorite song (with lyrics) on the album. something about it just gets me, i love the lyrics, and the way they are sung. its beautiful.
This is definatley the most emotionally poignant song MM has released. An awesomely beautiful, catchy, and powerful ballad, one of their best.
To me... it's about how the persona sees in the picture, how they don't change like they have now. It's the good old days, immobilized. The persona didn't realize they'd stya the way they were, whether romantically or emotionally, I'm not sure.
So I heard from a friend who heard from a friend who knows the band that this song was written about one of Paul's close friends who died... apparently he wrote it about how he felt when he was looking at this picture he has of them together...
Incredible... Hands Down.. This has to be one of the best songs ever written..
"and it's so much more than a thousand words" wow
Ohmygod. Wow, this is really ironic. This is totally irrelevant to what everyone else has to say about the song, but... This is the song that inspired me to write the last chapter of this story, in which the same scenario described by Musician211Sean was going on. 0.o This is freaky but really cool.

never thought of it that way..but that does actually make perfect sense after re-reading the lyrics again.

I love this song!:) but im having a little trouble with the meaning....can the picture he's describing be metephorical? and could he be he's talking about a happy time he's in right now?....
I'm officially in love with this song. It sounds a little bit like he lost a lover and is regretting he never told her he loved her..:(
He's looking back at pictures of himself with an ex girlfriend. It reminds him of how things used to be between them and he wishes they could go back to those times, but he knows they can't.
Your user name reminds me of Oreos and now I'm hungy. Damn you.
