The Last Goodbye Lyrics

I don’t believe you
And I never will
Oh I can’t live by your side with the lies you’ve tried to instil
I can’t take anymore, I don’t have to give you a reason
For leaving this time
Cause this is my last goodbye

It’s like I hardly know you
But maybe I never did
It’s like every emotion you showed me, you kept well hid
And every true word that you ever spoke, was really deceiving
Now I’m leaving this time
Cause this is my last goodbye

I’ve got to turn and walk away
I don’t have anything left to say
I haven’t already said before
I’ve grown tired of being used
And I’m sick and tired of being accused
Now I’m walking away from you
And I’m not coming back

I don’t believe you
And I never will
Oh I can’t live by your side with the lies you’ve tried to instil
I can’t take anymore, I don’t have to give you a reason
Oh for leaving this time
Cause this is my last goodbye

Oh I, I’ve got to turn and walk away
I don’t have anything left to say
I haven’t already said before
And I’ve grown tired of being used
And I’m sick and tired of being accused
Now I’m walking away from you
And I’m not coming back

And I don’t believe you
And I never will
Oh I can’t take anymore, I don’t have to give you a reason
For leaving this time
This is my last goodbye
My last goodbye

wow first to comment, i think this song is very simple to understand, but nearly everyone has had a situation where they fall like this. Everyone has had that last painful goodbye. it breaks my heart.

though i always thought it was about him having to leave. after listening to it for billionth time it is about the girl cheating on him for the last time. he thought he loved her. but she keeps lying "lies you tried to instill". but also he keeps being accused of cheating. this is my fav james morrison song.

Beautifully composed lyrics. I find James Morrison's voice very hypnotic with the good lyrics.

This song is something many broken hearted and betrayed men can relate to. He puts up with this woman for a long time, holding onto her, hoping something may change, or that the lies may stop

("I don't have anything left to say, I haven't already said before")

What hurts and hit me the most if where he sings "Oh I can’t take anymore, I don’t have to give you a reason".

I wish he will release another album, I can't myself from listening to it. Though almost all his songs involve some sort of sadness and pain.

I love this song. It's so emotional and raw, everything is just out in the open. It's so refreshing. The music in the beginning is haunting, and his voice is so powerful. Gives me chills.

Sounds like the end of a bad relationship.

this is v.relevant. sounds as if hes been stuck to this person for a while and now hes finally had enough, something has clicked, and he just has to get out.

I think this is about a relationship that has been going on for a very long time. It started well, the start always being the best time of a relationship. But eventually the relationship became corrupt, lies etc. That they've probaly argued, split up, gotten back together. But that this is his final goodbye, he can't take it anymore. Sometimes two people are better off apart, even if he can't even explain it in words. He just knows, they have to part.

Yeah - I think this is about a guy who has been (emotionally) abused in a relationship many times. And the final straw is her cheating on him.

I think he figures she's just used him for her convenience and now she's done this to him...

"And I've grown tired of being used"

Now he's finally realised what's happening (and he figures she never did love him) and he is (obviously) leaving for good:

"It's like I hardly know you But maybe I never did It's like every emotion you showed me, you kept well hid And every true word that you ever spoke, was really deceiving Now I'm leaving this time Cause this is my last goodbye"

Interestingly I've just commented on "Red" by Daniel Merriweather and I'm thinking the two songs, however different, may be similar in meaning!? What do you guys reckon?

Oh, this so reminds me of my best friend's ex-girlfriend, Maria. She was a bitch and abused him in more ways than anyone should ever be treated in a relationship. What a psycho.
