"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
In the end you will be laid to rest where you belong.
bathed in the flames for your hatred and your ignorance. Your the symbol of masculinity, but I can beat king kong.
I will stand up for those who suffer [x6]
I will stand up for those who have suffered, been crucified by your insecurities [x2]
You cant say what love is...when your castrated....FUCKERS!!
Hatchets castrating the fuckers! [x8]
The voice that I've been given I will use to crush bigotry and defeat intolerance. With bodies ablaze (mother fucker) Sadly no one's there to push you in the flames. So throw another stick in, and I swear with every ounce on strength I have......I WILL BURN YOU ALL ALIVE!!!! In the sticks lay your worthless bodies, screaming, keep fucking screaming.
and with your eyeballs boiling! [x3]
WHO'S THE FUCKING FAGGOT NOW??!! [x5]

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

pretty straightfoward, it's against all of the people who discriminate against homosexuals. amazing song, and amazing lyrics.
This is an anti-homophobic song. & I love it when he growls "WHO'S THE FUCKING FAGGOT NOW?"
On their myspace page, Zak has put this on the lyrics:
"(I changed the lyrics up a little bit to make it completely clear that this song is and has always been an anti-homophobic song. If you're butthurt the lyrics are different I simply don't give a fuck! -Zak)"
oh yeah, and the part "I will stand up for those who have suffered been crucified by your insecurities", i'm pretty sure that refers to the homosexual kid that a bunch of punks crucified and killed.
I don't think he meant it that way, I think those crucified part was a metaphor or imagery for a kid who was gay bashed by faggots and beat the shit out of him. Honestly i dont like homosexuals i don't mind them but people who would go out and beat the crap outa someone for who they are, like being a homo, or even homeless people that are beat up is just so stupid. this song is over played by scene kids and most of the probally don't even know the meaning of it. Most of them go "Oh elysia is brutal dude, whos the fucking faggot now bitch" When in truth they are the fucking faggots lol. anyways great lyrics and meaning and ok song
I agree with Krob189 altogether. I do agree that it isn't about anyone actually being killed, its probably just a metaphor of them being harassed and assaulted. And I agree too that I don't really like homosexuals and based on my religion don't agree with it, but I like the point of this song because seriously going out of your way to attack and brutalize another human being, regardless of sexual orientation or anything else is just stupid.

Last thing I gotta say is that this song is epic.
call it a terrible song all you want, the breakdowns are amazing, the message is wonderful, and their live performance is outrageous...especially during the "who's the fuckin' fagggot now?" part.
truly insane
AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Heres a few corrections....the lyrics are actually up on their page at myspace.com/elysia
