Just Take The Monkey And Leave Lyrics
There are angels on my shoulder.
And I would kill them if I could.
B-b-b-because I have the greatest dream that I've ever had.
And they're laughing -- oh they're laughing at me.
And it's a great idea to settle scores when -- we're sorry it's just a joke and I'm starting to set the punchline.
We're sorry it's just a joke and I'm starting to set the punchline now.
We said our goodbyes to the cast of spies and oh they're laughing at me.
b-b-b-because I have the greatest thing that I've ever seen and they're laughing--oh they're laughing at me.
And it's a great idea to settle scores when -- we're sorry it's just a joke and I'm starting to set the punchline.
We're sorry it's just a joke and I'm starting to set the punchline now.
(...instrumental...)
We are sorry, we don't know why
We are sorry, we don't know why
we don't know why
We're sorry it's just a joke and I'm starting to set the punchline.
We're sorry it's just a joke and I'm starting to set the punchline now.
We're sorry it's just a joke and i'm starting to get the punchline now
And I would kill them if I could.

And they're laughing -- oh they're laughing at me.

Any idea on the line There are angels on my shoulder, and I would kill them if i could?
I think it's "i'm starting to GET the punchline now", not "set"
Mason338, I see that line as referncing the whole idea that you have an angel and a devil on your shoulder telling you what you should do in any given situation- your subconscious if you will. And he's always being overwhelmed with trying to do the right thing and he wishes his conscience would just leave him alone. I dunno, but I always picture that when I hear that line.
This is a great song I;m surprised more people haven't commented on it...
lyrically, this song seems pretty cool. but can anyone tell me what this band sounds like? like the genre. thanks.
great song more people should have commented on it
it is "set the punchline" he says it weird though. I thought it was 'get' also when i first heard the song.
no man, it is "Get" the punchline, i bought the album the lyrics are enclosed. the backup singer says "sorry" at the same time he says "get" thats why it sounds like "set"
hence when the backup singer doesnt sing in the last chorus, you can more clearly hear him say "get"
The line "there are angels on my shoulder, and I would kill them if I could", is refering to the whole devil on one shoulder angel on the other. He doesnt want to listen to his angel, but he has to. going back to killing them if he could...
This song is awesome. I bought this cd not knowing anything about them and never hearing them. And it was a good thing.
