Cigarette Lit Lyrics

Cigarette lit, my plan's to quit
And I know I can but I know I will forget it
Stuck here, I need something quick
Just to stop me thinking
Always out, always in
It's calling to me

Excuse me, please, what have you got
t'get me out of my head while I've still got the courage
And not so out, just out enough
'Till i feel like I'm taking off

The rain falls down, but not alone
It covers all of us with silver light, in silver light
And all, I beg you, stay with me - let it rain all night

What a gift, this short visit
But I know I'll go just as quick as I came in
Matchstick, my finger tip
To stop me thinking

Always out, always in
It's coming to me

Excuse me please, what have you got
Get me out of my head while I've still got the courage
And not so out, just out enough
'Till I feel like I'm taking off

When the rain fall down, it's all alone
And covered all of us with silver light, in silver light
And all I beg of you, stay with me
Let it rain all night

I'm always out, always in
It's calling to me

And not so out, just out enough
'Till I feel like I'm takin' off

And the rain falls down, I'm not alone
And covers all of us, it's so divine, in silver light
And all, I beg you, stay with me, let it rain all night, oh

The rain falls down, it's not alone
It covers all of us in a silver light in silver light,
And lord I beg you, stay with me - let it rain all night

This song is pretty self explanitory, in my opinion. It's about the feeling that you need something, an addiction (such as smoking). But it can be applied to anything, a lover who you know is bad for you, a drug, an eating disprder, anything that you can't help but give in to. Great song, I'm really glad I stumbled upon it.

this story is about dying to self...dave cant die to the idea of the habit of controlling self. he's sees himself "outside" of himself being bathed in Gods light of his sovereign will until daves body "craves" the nicotine habit (any habit really). dave then steps into himself to control and feeds his need to "control his temptation" by giving in .

its an exercise of futility and identifying his lack of control in the end.

like the song "you might die trying"... dave cant die to the" idea" of self controling self. but he can observe and learn what is "good" and what is "bad" to self.

people cant stop temptations..only God can and we just observe it happening afterwards. we dont stop ourselves..its an illusion. all we can do is hope that our lives "turns out good" and the temptation ends.

and the rain falls down...

we live by grace and not of ourselves. its a gift from above
