Sao Paulo Lyrics
sit down my love of all good spaces
and breathe my love let's all be spent
i'm going to tell you both a story
about some memories that i dreamt
see i've lost love in many places
not least the streets of san paolo
and friends especially, i didn't make them
a ten floor window to her home
sometimes i could cry for miles
sometimes i could cry for miles
sometimes i could cry for miles
but i don't
so hush the shadows in the oak tree
be still you curl upon the moor
my heart has fallen upon the wayside
i cannot claim her anymore
so don your duffel coats quite slowly
and this sad jury has ajurned
while on the streets of old san paolo
i watch my baby being burned
sometimes i could cry for miles
sometimes i could cry for miles
sometimes i could cry for miles
but i don't
sometimes i could cry ah sometimes
drop my bags and run for miles
and sometimes i could live my life
but i wont, but i won't
have you ever been thrown across the water
have you ever been thrown across the water
have you ever been thrown across the water
till there's no skin left on your bones
thrown across water
thrown across water
thrown across water
like a stone
get me a doctor
get me a doctor
who will get rid of my bones
get me a lover
get me a lover
who will leave my head alone
get me a soldier
get me a soldier
who will fight me in this war
get me an exit
i need an exit
i need a window or door
thrown across water
thrown across water
thrown across water
like a stone
get me a lawyer
get me a lawyer
who will sue the world for me
get me a person
get me a person
get me a person
who isn't me
cuz i'm getting tired
i'm getting tired
of my stupid little face
cuz i don't belong here
i don't belong here
don't belong in this horse race
thrown across water
thrown across water
thrown across water
like a stone
and breathe my love let's all be spent
i'm going to tell you both a story

I don't know what it means, but it's still absolute genious.
Amazing song, filled with such emotion.
A couple of corrections, the song is called 'Sao Paolo' after the city in Brazil, not 'San Paolo', which I'm not sure exists.
And part 2 of the second chorus is:
Sometimes I could cry nine times Drop my bags and run for miles Sometimes I could live nine lives But I won't, but I won't
The first part has beautiful imagery of loves lost and burnt in Brazilian city streets, whereas the second half is fraught with emotion, kind of a plea. I don't know what the song is about as a whole, but it's genius none the less!
i love this song!!! when i went to see them at the carling in glasgow i got to go on stage and hit this metal pot thing at the end of this song!!! i also met fyfe that day, so this song reminds me of tht day, which was an amazing day:D:D:D!!!
They have this brazilian touch because of the guitar MC Lord Magrao who is from Sao Paulo..cool samba in the end of the song.
it's Sao Paolo not San Paolo. São Paolo if you're being picky.
actually it's são paulo. not são paolo.
Yayayayayayayayaya yaaaaa yayayayayayayaya ya yaaaaa yayayayayayaya ya yaaaaa yayayayayaya a aaaaaaa I think I counted right :) I adore this song.. it has so much longing in it.. like an appeal,.. though it can be interpreted lots of ways.. genius.
I heard some bits completely differently:
Sit down my love of open spaces In grief my love has all been spent...
...And friends especially I did make there A tenth floor window took her home.
These lyrics, right or wrong, sound like he has lost someone he really loved in some kind of tragedy, possibly even through suicide; home being heaven, or hell.
I also agree with Donkey81 on the 2nd chorus lyrics, defintely 'nine'.
And, the geek I am, it's sao paolo on itunes/Gracenote listings and são paulo on the album cover.
Can't wait for album 2. And 'From the Cliffs' is also well worth the buy, another smidge of genius from the jaws of perfection

i think what everyone has said makes sense and i think hes feeling chlaustraphobic in the city:
sit down my love of all good spaces
and
get me an exit i need an exit i need a window or door
