Redwings Lyrics
this is where we fall from the trees
this is where the sky comes up
??? joy
you made a man out of me
this is where the glass leaves the lips
splintering a chemistry of friends
i'll treasure you always
you know i love you
you know i love you
you know i love you
this is where we wake in the ditch
this is where our bodies sing no more
for the apples on the floor
pecked down by redwings
pour another whisky out for me
it'll be the last bottle we share
because i drift outta nowhere
know that i loved you
know that i loved you
know that i loved you
but love was not enough
to hold my grip
can't you just feel my fingers slip
into those oceans and the sky where
people swim
ocean and the sky callin me in
oceans and the sky
i tell myself
i'm not kidding anybody else
they know i'm leavin'
they know i'm leaving
they know
they know
they know
know that i'm leaving
so i'm leaving my best friend
just for the hell of it
just for the sake of it
how much i loved you.
this is where the sky comes up
??? joy
you made a man out of me
this is where the glass leaves the lips
splintering a chemistry of friends
i'll treasure you always
you know i love you
you know i love you
you know i love you

Just a note, it's "Daft killers of joy, you made a man out of me", and later "fallen apples on the floor" (not for the apples on the floor).
This song is just beautiful, about being in love with someone but in the end that's not enough
I think this song only works in context of the album. It comes 2 songs after Made Up Love Song #43 which is about a girl who he doesn't think likes him 'I love you, I don't think you care.' but then does 'I Love you, I can't believe you care.'
Then there's Trains to Brazil which is about living you life to the fullest and expresses disdain about the parnoia we live in today.
Then there's Redwings where suddenly things go wrong. Our character breaks up with his girlfriend, 'splintering a chemistry of friends' It's a beautiful song, very melancholic and really shows off Fyfe's amazing voice.
this song just simply breaks my heart because it is so beautiful
perhaps a break up due to distance, not because of the loss of feelings. Obviously though, they broke up because they didn't feel like they could make it so far apart.
"splintering a chemistry of friends i'll treasure you always you know i love you"
no matter what though...he'll still love her
love this song. probably one of my faves
For me this song was one of my favourites when I saw Guillemots live, it's so hauntingly beautiful. This is how I hear the first verse and a bit: 'This is where we fall from the tree This is where the sky cowers up Daft kingdom of joy, you made a man out of me This is where the glass leaves the lens...' This is very poingant song for me - about a relationship that can't quite work even though it's fuelled with intense love, friendship and passion.
To me this explains a situation: good friends who know they love each other "splintering a chemistry of friends i'll treasure you always you know i love you" yet can't admit it. He knows he will never forget her when he leaves, yet he doesn't want to hurt her by telling her as the ending sort of explains. I don't know, my interpretation of it as this is a situation I know very well :D
i always get the feeling of christmas when i hear this...someone that has been left on his own by someone he loves and seems to realise how much he misses that person during christmas!
This song to me is about death! Waking in a ditch. Bodies sing no more. The last bottle we share as I drift into nowhere. Slipping into oceans in the sky where people swim. Know that I'm leaving. All references to death. It's a beautiful, beautiful song.
