Dance Hall Drug Lyrics
Grown up- she just turned 16
Stuck in the moment
Dead at the scene
And it's on tonight
This is the life that you wanted, right?
So turn off all the lights
Dressed up just like a movie star
At all the parties, they'll know who you are
Wouldn't it be great
To be fashionably late?
So why don't you wait 'til you're sedated
Don't it feel like something's not right in his kiss tonight?
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to lose it all?
'Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug
You can't wait to fall in love
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to learn to fly?
Then you should pack it up and say goodbye
'Cause when the push comes to the shove, it's just a dance hall drug
Step in and you can lock the door
The candles are lit and the clothes on the floor
You could take a chance on finding romance
Now you're holdng hands
But he's got other plans
Tick-tock, the clock is turning red
The room won't stop spinning and thoughts in your head
And it's too late
You feel like you're making a big mistake
You should've waited
Don't it feel like something's not right in his kiss tonight?
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to lose it all?
'Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug
You can't wait to fall in love
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to learn to fly?
Then you should pack it up and say goodbye
'Cause when the push comes to the shove, it's just a dance hall drug
Just wait, love
Show 'em what you're made of
Don't it feel like something's not right in his kiss tonight?
Do you want to lose it all?
'Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug
You can't wait to fall in love
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to learn to fly?

Martin Johnson said "So many kids are growing up too fast. 13 year olds are giving each other hand jobs in the back of the bus, 14 year olds are already drinking and partying, and kids spend more time worried about growing up and being cool than they do actually growing up and being a kid. This song is basically a lyrical preaching to a 16 year old girl who is stuck wishing she was older, tempted by older guys, sex, grown up situations and drugs. The 'Dance Hall Drug' metaphor is like what ecstasy does to your brain. It gives you a false sense of happiness and reality. In her case, her false sense of happiness is an older, tempting guy, who she doesn't have to give her body up to be happy."

the right lyrics for some of the parts in this song
"Grown up- she just turned 16" "To be fashionably late" "Don't it feel like something's not right in this kiss tonight?" "Then you should pack it up and say goodbye" "Step in and you can lock the door"
but i love this song
ok. thank you. i knew some of those were wrong, but i played it by ear.
Hm. Maybe it's about a girl who's a big flirt...maybe she got drugged at a party..or maybe drunk--and had a one night stand with a guy she liked..and she wanted to become something with him but the boy's think 'Wait a minute. No. I have someone else waiting for me. I don't want you.'
it sounds more like 'in his kiss' to me
umm yess... i realy think its in HIS kiss... and it seems better.

This? naah no way! lol

I think you're on the right track BlackandWhiteDreams but I don't necessarily think it is just a one night stand type of deal, but is about how young girls, especially 16 year old girls who just get their drivers license, are so anxious to start partying and putting out. The "something's not right in his kiss" line I think means the guy is only interested in getting some ass rather than really caring about the girl. It's these kinds of one night stands that makes sex just a dance hall drug whereas waiting to find real romance and a strong relationship would be worth so much more. In theory of course...
This band sounds like Simple Plan, well in this song anyways... Not that thats a bad thing...
I think that Midnight Cowboy is on to the right idea. Teenage girls are all excited and want to throw themselves at the first boy who makes them feel like they love them. And the romance is like a drug, and if you give it to it you could end up "losing it all".
This song's clearly about Date Rape.
no this song isnt about date rape, it can be, but not solely.(SP)
to me it reminds me of a freshman in high school, just coming in and trying to make it big. she wants to become popular and wants people to like her. thats where all the:
"Stuck in the moment Dead at the scene And it's on tonight This is the life that you wanted, right? So turn off all the lights Dressed up just like a movie star At all the parties, they'll know who you are"
comes in, where shes dressing all 'that' you know like you used to think when you were a freshman. (thank god we learned with time) so anyways she's about to do it with a guy from the party and obviously she's having second thoughts, and the singer is trying to get across that she should wait, for when it would be special with someone special.
"Do you want to lose it all? 'Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug You can't wait to fall in love All I'm saying is do you, do you want to learn to fly? Then you should pack it up and say goodbye 'Cause when the push comes to the shove, it's just a dance hall drug"
so he's saying just wait and in time it will all work out, you will fall in love with someone who will fall in love with you, and it will be more special.
THEIR LYRICS ARE AMAZING. THEY WRITE/SING IT LIKE IT IS. THEY'RE GONNA BE SO HUGE!
I agree! when i first heard the song, I thought of something like that. But maybe not a freshman... just that kind of girl in general
