Stare at the Sun Lyrics

How, how are we off on a tangent again
Oh we say, what we say, and the poison is breaking our skin.
Blame, whats to blame; its an argument no one can win
Cause at best, we dont know and its wearing us thin.

And we stare at the sun, but we never see anything there.
Just a glare has become all that well ever see there.
And we stare at the sun, but we never see anything there
All of nothings become all that well ever see there.

Caught, we are caught in a wheel spun around on the truth.
Maybe we dont need to know anymore than we have to.

The sky is always wondering
What are these arguments about
You think we would notice
Our eyes are burning out
We should have learned by now

I have a different take on Stare at the Sun.. I think it has more to do with that fact that the entire time humans have been on this earth they have doubted God and His existence... so in order to answer profound questions like where do we come from? how did the universe begin? Where did the dinosaurs go? We have to look at something else.. We've looked at science for the answers. We try to guess what happened by morphing theories into something that people will believe. I think the song is about how we look to the sky/space/science for the answers (stare at the sun) but we will never find anything there. Just what we've made up is all that we'll ever see.

(you think we'd notice our eyes are burning out) We're just wasting our time with this research into giving scientific explanations for these questions. Science is a product of the natural world. God is beyond us. He is SUPER-natural. we're stuck in this natural realm so we can't expect to understand everything. (maybe we don't need to know anymore than we have to.)

All these years arguing and testing and hypothesizing over what happened. The Bible has been telling us the answers to these questions since it has been written!.. If you really look into it, the bibles way makes so much more sense then any other theory I've ever heard. Why don't we believe? Because we're too busy trying to mold everything into what We think history was like and how we were created, etc. We've been arguing and do this for sooo long but have still yet to prove anything!.. it's stupid.. like staring into the sun.. we should have learned by now...

i think you're on to something here :)

I wouldn't necessarily go with explanation. I think they're making the point of what really happens against the stories and theories.

Yeah I agree with most of what you commented ....I found this song when my father had suddenly passed .I could see with tears streaming down how the Lyrics paint a picture of the human race looking for answers in a never ending physical universe we are "renting" and think we know EVERYTHING and are so very SMART. Every single one of us are in denial of a world other than what we know...unless we believe that whole heartedly and without any doubt that our God has a place for us when it is our time to die."We...

this song is amazing..I love their sound, reminds me of My Epiphany

I think this song could be about the debate over whether God is real. or just about words tossed over some event..

i absolutle love this song and it is amazing when they do it live too but it does confuse me when it comes to its lyrics - i think its a 'why are us humans soo stupid and dnt just turn to God - why don't we just put our trust in God and let Him led us through life. Thats what i get from it nehow!

conversely i think this song is saying, people are always looking for answers and god and a greater being/point, but we will never know and we can never find out for certain. so we make our own god/explanations from what we do know, which is very little in the scheme of things. and really there's no point in causing all this drama between religions and all that when we can't prove anything.

however upon discovering they are a Christian band I am clearly wrong.

I agree with painted faces. They want to believe a christian god is real, like many christian people, but realize it either doesn't matter if they recognize there is a god, or perhaps there is no god at all.

I'm going with Christian by the way just because they are all christrians, but im sure it could apply to any religion. But It's a good wake up call to many people who blindly follow any belief that is preached to them between pretty glass pictures. Jowhatever57 might be a good example of this person.

also I lol'd a bit at craigowens as well :)

they aren't a christian band.

"We've always conditioned our show universally, and (we're) just trying to speak to human beings; (we're) not really conditioning it down to Christians, and that's what the Christian music industry does. It's for a certain sect of people. I don't have anything against that--I'm one of them--but I don't want to taper it just for that," said (Paul) Meany (lead singer), here:

http://www.tucsonweekly.com/gbase/Music/Content?oid=oid:77485

"For us, we just try to keep it simple. We're obviously a band; that's really all we ever wanted to be from the very beginning without catering to any particular genre or political or religious agenda or anything. We just want to make music with no barriers." Meany again as quoted by Boise Weekly from the band's wikipedia page.

they are NOT a christian band and do not want to be labeled that way.

just wanted to clarify that. i love this band. if you haven't seen them live look them up on youtube. amazing, especially darren king.

@mdgwsu89: surely they do not promote themselves as a christian band and i do disagree about putting things in a pidgeonhole but it cannot be hidden or taken out of the picture where a lot of their music and their lyrics come from.

I think by Christian band he was referring to the band members' faith, not the fact that they sell their music under a label of Christianity. There's something very real about this band, and I can definitely respect that. And trust me, there are a lot of Christian themes in their music, but they do so in a way that isn't so much "GOD IS GREAT, PRAISE JESUS" that has been done over and over for a quick buck, but they actually question faith and their own faith and shortfalls therein. I hope this is the future of Christian music, because while I like bands like Delirious? I also love hearing things that clearly acknowledge the real world shortcomings of faith.
