The Monster Is Loose Lyrics
I've been livin' my life in a cage
Feelin' spit in my face, it was such a disgrace
Then I was lonely
From running empty, desperate
I've had my head in a noose
I've had nothin' to lose, had enough of abuse
So now I'm dangerous
It's so contagious, it owns us
I'm angry
I'm raging
I'm breakin' through the pain
The monster's loose and now you know the truth
Tell me can you feel it as you hit the wall?
The monster's loose and now you have to choose
And prove that you can take it to the top before you fall
I've walked a slippery road
With revenge in my soul, through the wind and the cold
With no protection
Just one direction: destruction
I've paid for all my mistakes
Taken all I can take 'till I'm ready to break
Like [?]inhibitions / a-mebisious / an ambition[/?]
It's so outrageous, it breaks us
I'm bleeding
Still breathin'
I'm tearin' through these chains
The monster's loose and now you know the truth
Tell me can you feel it—as you hit the wall?
The monster's loose and now you have to choose
And prove that you can take it—to the top and never fall
I've lived a thousand years in darkness
Banished all alone
Inside my mind with just my madness
Behind these walls of stone
I was falling apart at the seams
Holding my breath just to breathe
Tasted the sting of my tears...
I was waking up stuck in a dream
Ran out of air, couldn't scream
Wasted away by my fears...
The monster's loose and now you know the truth
Tell me can you feel it—as you hit the wall?
The monster's loose and now you have to choose
And prove that you can take it—to the top and never fall
(monster's loose, you lost your last excuse)
Now show me that you got it—even when you crawl
The monster's loose, this game is win or lose
Now tell me who's gotta do it—and show the world you want it all

I just heard it a few days ago, it really blew me away. great song
Great song, Sounds like the new album is gonna be another classic like the others. The man has done it again.
A lot harder then most of his other stuff, This album will be an instant classic i think
It's about satan breaking out of hell after being kept there for so long, and trying to get people to follow him I guess as said in the book of Revelations. I could be looking to deep into the song though.
Gotta lpve meat loaf. He kicked ass with yet another album.
Being an athlete and stuff this song really gets me in the mood to kick some serious ass. Its like a guy who has had a bad time, and now he feels he is gonna rise up..
I cant see any references to satan etc.
Some of the lyrics arn't right, "Feelin' spit in my face" is "Freedom spit in my face" and "From running empty" is "Run-down and empty". I'm totally sure, and I know it doesn't sound right, but it's in the lyrics booklet in the album. If any of you we true fans you would be buying albums rather than scamming people like Meat Loaf by downloading music and you would know the lyrics. I'm pretty sure Like "[?]inhibitions / a-mebisious / an ambition[/?]" is "Like something vicious" but I can't really remember, the booklet is in the car outside which I can't really be bothered getting right now... I don't mean to sound mean, it just really annoys me of how people can claim to be loyal fans yet still not be helping the artists out.
And yeah, this is a truly kickass song!!
Meat Loaf is great at smerging the Classic Rock with some Metallish, fast, heavy, good stuff but still making it orchestrial and powerful. There are just soo many instruments playing in this song, so many people that want to play for Meat Loaf it's amazing. It's a great change to the modern punk-rock bands with only four members! I love how heavy this song is, it's great =]
And I know this is "SongMeanings" not "SongCritism" but I just had to say that... I think the meaning of this song is really obvious, like everyone else has commented, a guy who is breaking through after decades of torment.
Meat Loaf is a legend, I've been listning to him since I was born and forever will \m/ Even though I'm a metal/punk/emo-chick, I'm not ashamed to tell everyone my first concert was Meat Loaf XD
the beast let loose after the thousand years..
meat loaf has an incredible voice, it rings so clearly
Definitely about the releasing of an inner demon.
It also strikes me that this concerns making a choice (The monster's loose and now you have to choose And prove that you can take it to the top before you fall) about what he's going to DO with the monster now that it IS loose.
I also think that the song implies that this isn't just somebody who's angry, but someobody who has a REAL inner monster. I've known a few people like that. They're usually very self-contained, introspective and controlled, often quiet and shy - because they have to be, because they have a killer's soul, and it's too dangerous to be emotional.
Sadly, that's also just the kind of person who attracts a certain class of abusive people, making it even harder for them to maintain control.
Not everybody has a REAL inner monster... but those of us who do can tell you that letting it "loose" is an incredibly dangerous thing. Especially if, like the character in the song, you've been made to suffer while you've contained it for years.
Loose the monster correctly, and you can use it for good - or at least, against other monsters. Choose poorly, and you turn it inward and destroy yourself, or out against innocents and become some useless spree killer.
Meatloaf + Metal? MUST WORSHIP!
Seriously though, this album is amazing, it really is.
