Who Killed Tangerine? Lyrics

Whatcha gonna choose the poison or the knife
Lived with crazy paining all your life
Something in your eyes just tells you no
Hoping conversation starts to flow

Stuck inside a wheel inside a wheel
Wondering everyday, is it all for real?
Blinking every time a cold wind blows
Our love don't fill a mile in rose

Danger remains
Whatcha gonna do when the old man reads you dry
Step down from the plane and rub the eyes
Slide in deeper closer to the bone
Don't you just wish your heart was made of stone?

Waxing like an old crack 45
Counting out the ways you could stay alive
Placing all the banks and feel the stones
My love won't leave the waves of foam

And when you think it's all over
It's not over, it's not over
And when you think it's all over
It's not over, it's not over
And when you think it's all over
It's not over, it's not over

Who killed Tangerine?
The prettiest girl I've ever seen
Who killed Tangerine?

Who killed Tangerine?
The prettiest girl I've ever seen
Who killed Tangerine?

And when you think it's all over
It's not over, it's not over
And when you think it's all over
It's not over, it's not over
And when you think it's all over
It's not over, it's not over

Whenever it gets to the "when you think that it's all over, it's not over" part, I think of them saying "we're back, bitches."

The song itself is quite obvious in its meaning. However, having only just gotten into the album after owning it for 1 year, this is the best track after Closest Thing...it starts at a gentle plodding pace, quite innocent and calm, but then in a short time its running away and SHOUTING at you, inviting you join in. Tears for fears have a knack of doing this well, witness Shout, Year of Knife, Everybody wants to Rule the World.

Whether or not there is any validity in this, this song reminds me so much of the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and though the movie came out in 2004, this song would have been utterly perfect for it.

but what is it really about?

Brilliant song. I noticed the obvious Beatle-feel over the whole album (yes, I'm a fan of those guys too) and this is pretty much their equvalent of Hey Jude with the endless chanting. Too bad they made it so short...

i think this about is about a drug user. Re first stanza: the posion (snorting cocaine) or the line (shooting up). the lines "who killled tangerine are rhetorical: who got her hooked\' who is her supplier \n. she uses to kill the pain of or a tramitic event.

sorry about the last line: it should read:the question who killed tangerine is rhetorical:who got her hooked; who is her supplier; or did someone do something terrible to her that she uses drugs to kill the pain or all 3?
