(Just Like We) Breakdown Lyrics
Come around and around just like we break down
With a fist and a fall we meet with the floor
On the ropes in the hope of making once more
All in the name of what we're not sure
Come around and around just like we break down
With a fist and a fall we meet with the floor
On the ropes in the hope of making once more
All in the name of what we're not sure
Lay it down in our beds it's caught in our head
There's a room full of notes, they've built to a dread
Is there room to ignore what we are here for?
Turn on the lights and open the door
Ring on your finger, a block on your heart
Hold on my friend, an end is the start
Ring on your finger, a block on your heart
Hold on my friend, an end is the start
Come around and around just like we break down
With a fist and a fall we meet with the floor
On the ropes in the hope of making once more
All in the name of what we're not sure
Ring on your finger, a block on your heart
Hold on my friend, an end is the start
Ring on your finger, a block on your heart
Hold on my friend, an end is the start
With a fist and a fall we meet with the floor
On the ropes in the hope of making once more
All in the name of what we're not sure
With a fist and a fall we meet with the floor
On the ropes in the hope of making once more
All in the name of what we're not sure
There's a room full of notes, they've built to a dread

Hold on my friend, an end is the start

i'm pretty sure it's "ring on your finger, a block on your heart."
could be wrong though.. but that's what it sounds like to me.
catchy tune. great beat, not to mention a great band. so clever, eh?
this CD is A++. not a song on it that i don't love.
ps. I think it's "a pox on your heart"
I think it's "a lock on your heart". Makes the most sense to me.
The DFA remix of "Breakdown" is amazing, the best DFA remix I've ever heard. I also think it's 'a pox on your heart'. I like the oblique, cyclical lyrics, "he end is the start". A great party beat.
This seems to be a sad song. About a couple going through times and the possiblity of a divorce. The first two verses are the endless cycle of fights (boxing analogy - on the ropes) And they are not sure why they continue on with it. The fact that the verse is repeated adds to the meaning.
"Turn on the lights and open the door." Sounds like someone is leaving.
I think it is "Block" because it goes with the rest of the song. And even though there is a ring on your finger, your heart is still closed. An end is a start.
Lots of feeling! And the DFA remix is awesome.
I thought it was "a BLOCK on your heart" as well until I heard them in concert last night - it's definitely "a ROCK on your heart" which I hadn't even considered . haha.
ps.... I don't know if it was just the concert I was at and they were having a bad night, but they totally SUCKED ASS. made me so sad since they do such amazing music :(
Listening to the DFA Remix right now... Is it DFA as in DFA1979 or DFA as in LCD SOUNDSYSTEM'S label?
i think this song is more about religion, moral, and love. and the confusion within it all.
I normally dont bring religion into songs but "On the ropes in the hope of making once more All in the name of what we're not sure" just seams likt it goes with religion.
and yes they are going to suck in concert its an electronic band the more non natural the instruments the worse it is live.
Wow, that is ridiculously ignorant. I've seen plenty of electronica show's that have blown me away. Ghostland Observatory, The Presets, Fischerspooner, Digitalism just to name a few. Sounds to me like your taste in electronic music sucks...

This songs about a man and woman deciding to have an affair or not
"Come around and around just like we break down With a fist and a fall we meet with the floor On the ropes in the hope of making once more All in the name of what we're not sure"
I agree with the boxing metaphor.. they've been here before. Where will it go this time? Are they here for love or lust?
"Lay it down in our beds it's caught in our head There's a room full of notes, they've built to a dread Is there room to ignore what we are here for? Turn on the lights and open the door"
They both know what the other is thinking and know that "right" answer is to leave
"Ring on your finger, a block on your heart Hold on my friend, an end is the start"
Because one of them is married, the ring blocks the heart. But if they truly love one another, an end of one romance can be the start of a new one
