Colours are what keep me alive
Colours I want to hold in my hand
Colours are where my, my old makes new
Colours are where my, my brain finds blue
Colours and colours and colours of colours
Colours and colours and colours of colours
Covers and covers and covers in colours
Covers and covers and covers in colours
Bursts are where I find a fix
Bursts are made to colour me rich
Bursts of blocks, stickle bricks
Bursts of colour 'til I'm sick
Colours and colours (repeat)
I only wanted for to see
There's nothing in this heart but me
Everything you want is not free
I'm everything a girl could need
There's nothing in this heart but me
If everything you want is free
Colours and colours (repeat)
I'm everything a girl could need
There's nothing in this heart but me
If everything you want is free
If everything you want is free
There's nothing in this heart but me
I only wanted for to see
I only wanted for to see
There's nothing in this heart but me
And everything you want is not free free free
Colours I want to hold in my hand
Colours are where my, my old makes new
Colours are where my, my brain finds blue
Colours and colours and colours of colours
Covers and covers and covers in colours
Covers and covers and covers in colours
Bursts are made to colour me rich
Bursts of blocks, stickle bricks
Bursts of colour 'til I'm sick
I only wanted for to see
There's nothing in this heart but me
Everything you want is not free
There's nothing in this heart but me
If everything you want is free
I'm everything a girl could need
There's nothing in this heart but me
If everything you want is free
There's nothing in this heart but me
I only wanted for to see
There's nothing in this heart but me
And everything you want is not free free free

I feel that this song was made when whoever wrote it was on a really good high, but a natural one, ya know? He feels perfect, illuminiscint and nearly innocent.
Anyways, I love this song.. makes me feel good, too, haha.
Bursts = Ecstasy?
"Bursts are where I find a fix Bursts are made to colour me rich Bursts of blocks, stickle bricks Bursts of colour 'til I'm sick"
brilliant
This was on the playlist when I worked at The Gap! It used to get stuck in my head ALL the time and I never knew who sang it.
this song. is. my LIFE.
reminds me of unrequited love. "there's nothing in this heart but ME!"
It's about an acid trip.
I think ggaaoo is correct in his proposal that the song is about ecstasy…
“Colours are what keep me alive Colours I want to hold in my hand Colours are where my, my old makes new Colours are where my, my brain finds blue”
It is well known that when a person takes ecstasy in excess, they gradually experience waves of depression or the “blues for the brain” as Hot Chip would put it. But alas, it is just my opinion. I might be over-analyzing the song. It could merely be about colors…hell, everyone loves colors.
I read an article about Alexis Taylor in a Rolling Stone magazine recently…it mainly just commented on his strange choice in clothing and said little about the music he produced…ugh.
I HOPE EVERYONE BOUGHT THEIR MOST RECENT C.D.
I've been in love with this song since the first time I heard it ages ago. gosh, it never gets old to me. x
I can totally see where people are going with thinking this is about drugs of some sort. But doesn't it seem a little redundant, if it were about ecstacy or acid or what have you, to say "Bursts are where I find my fix"? It's like saying "Dogs are like domesticated animals that walk on four legs and bark." (Because "fix" generally refers to drugs of some sort.)
I hate to double post, but isn't it "Colours are where my brain finds /glue/" and "Bursts of /glocks/, stickle bricks"? Maybe?
Also, for what it's worth, I've been thinking more about the meaning, and the two verses really remind me of how I feel about music. I find it vitalizing, stabilizing, all-encompassing, and addictive to the point where I'll blast a song until my eardrums are sore or dance until it feels like my legs are about to fall off. And to me, the chorus seems to express the simultaneous simplicity and utter beauty of music. I feel like it's this massive gorgeous force that can never be fully comprehended or articulated, so you just get this chant of "Colours and colours and colours of colours/Covers and covers and covers in colours" (colours being a symbol for creativity or beauty or what have you).
Anyway, the song's got a very personal meaning to me, if you couldn't tell...
